InactiveTherese, the baby is moving and I feel weak kicks from time to time already. I have some suggestions for having two kids:
1) they entertain each other2) they grow up to be team players3) they learn to shareI will give you more as I think of more. I gotta run to work now 🙂November 2, 2007 at 12:43 pm #44921Anonymous
InactiveThe main reason that David and I wanted two was that they will have each other when David and I are old and annoying or when they loose us to old age. Can you imagine having to go through that alone? Sorry to some of you single children out there if you have been through this. I think that is one of the hardest things in the world….

KeymasterSorry to change the subject- well to get back to the subject, LOL
but I wanted to comment about tantrums-I find it helps to give them words when they’re having a tantrum-I basically narrate what’s going on & give teh ‘feeling’ words as I’m doing itlike “you’re FRUSTRATED! really FRUSTRATED! you tried to take that magnet off the refriderator and it went right under the refridgerator & now you can’t get it. How FRUSTRATING”you get the idea, lol.this doesn’t stop the tantrums or make them any worse (or better) but it makes me feel like I am DOING something and I also see it as a way to help them express themselvesAnn Marie- tell about the photos you put on the fridge! Ingenious!November 2, 2007 at 10:06 pm #44930Anonymous
InactiveTherese,
Siblings learn a lot earlier in life that the world does not revolve around them!Siblings can teach you to compromise, share, and cooperate.Siblings can provide you with a lifelong companion, confidant, and allie. They are often your biggest supporters in life. They can be that mirror that teaches you to see yourself as others see you.Your sibling knows you inside and out, and loves you anyway!Siblings provide you with relationship experience so that as you get older and begin to form relationships outside of your immediate family, you have some clue how to treat others and how you should be treated.Siblings hurt you from time to time, and you survive, and you learn to accept that even those who love you sometimes hurt you.Siblings teach you to say you’re sorry. And siblings teach you to forgive.Siblings can be a lifelong source of unconditional love in your life.
I agree with Anne Marie about why I didn’t want to have just one. Often times in life marriages fall apart, friends move away or grow apart, parents get old or pass away….
It’s so wonderful to have siblings who love you and are there for you. My sister lost her son, battled breast cancer twice, and got divorced, all in a matter of a few years. Our mom was too ill to be much help to her. She often expresses how much it means to her to have two sisters stand by her and support her through it all. I have two sisters and we all feel that we are one of life’s richest blessings to each other.Back to the tantrums…Myles has a terrific vocabulary, but no “feelings” words yet. Maybe that’s what I need to work on.

InactiveOh yeah, Laura! And we are in the process for doing it for Carter and it is a really great way to help them communicate.
We took pictures of the basics, bottle, playscape, certain favorite toys, crackers, with a very plain background so it was just the object in the picture. We pasted them to poster board so they were durable. You can paste magnets on them and attach to the fridge, for Carter this time we are doing velcro and a big poster board, so then when you give them the bottle, show them the picture of the bottle, etc, so they learn to associate the picture with getting what they want. We always left the pictures at a level Dylan could get them himself. This went a long way with him being able to meet his needs. For Dylan, I remember, I would put the actual object in a box first, and then moved onto pictures, but Carter can already identify pictures, so we are not going to do actuals first with him.Hopefully this makes sense!!Ann Marie -
