Inactive…and my belly’s getting bigger. Bad combination since none of my coats/jackets fit me anymore. What do I do?? I need to get something that I can wear even after I have the baby (after all, investing in a coat/jacket just for one winter makes no sense to me…go ahead, say it…I sound cheap). Any suggestions?

InactiveWhat about a cape? My SIL bought me one for Christmas last year that had a hood and pockets. Unfortunately it never got really cold here last winter and I was so hot b/c I was so pregnant that I never wore it, but I am sure I will pull it out this year. Just a thought.

Inactivesorry no ideas here. Although I had a winter baby, it rarely gets really cold here so I just made do wearing maternity sweaters and no coat. Does DH have one you can borrow? May not be too fashionable but at least you will stay warm.

InactiveTiffany, with wind chills it can get in the minus here. Pretty bad. Since I’m due in March, I’ll be pregnant all through the winter.

InactiveI was pregnant through the winter with my first, and it can get darn cold up here in Canada as well!! What I did was buy a double breasted, button down winter coat. During the early months I was able to button it all the way down, but as I got bigger (and I got REALLY big) I only did up the top button and left the bottom ones undone. Since it was double breasted, my belly was still covered because the double breasted coats have so much overlapping material down the front. There was room for my belly, yet I was still warm and covered.

InactiveNot sure if this would work for you, but I was able to wear my boxy, non-maternity down jacket to the very last day. Not the fashionable, fitted type, but the boxy cut kind from an outdoors/ camping store. I was huge, and it still zipped around my belly.

InactiveOh, and Tiffany…I’m embarrassed to admit it but DH is slimmer than I am at the moment so…can’t borrow his jacket.

Keymasterget a coat at a second hand/thrift store?
if you get a coatt big enough you can babywear in it next winter too
If you can find someone who sews, here’s a babywearing poncho-I don’t see why it woudn’t work for being pregnant?- the photo shows a baby on the back, but if you follow the link you’ll see that it can be on the front also: http://crafts.sleepingbaby.net/poncho.htmlAgain if you can find a tailor/seamstress- here are instructions of how to turn a ‘regular’ coat into a maternity (babywearing) coat:November 3, 2007 at 8:55 am #44937Anonymous
InactiveI was going to suggest browsing ebay and see if there are any maternity coats for cheap on there! I didn’t buy a winter coat (had Sarah in April) and I made it through the winter OK…although I wasn’t outside as much as you will probably have to be.
Good luck and I hope you stay warm!

InactiveI was also going to suggest either ebay or a thrift store. You can usually find almost brand new things for very little money. Good luck finding something that works.
