InactiveThat the prevacid is giving my son an upset stomach and gas? It really seems that when I give him his meds in the am/pm the way you are supposed to, w/ apples or pears 30 mins before a meal, he doesn’t take much formula( 2 ozs) and he bends himself forward and passes ALOT of gas throughout the day. Jack will only eat while he is sleepy so I will feed him and than lay him down but after his am/pm meds he pulls his body and legs together like he’s in pain and can’t get comfortable. But, in the afternoons he will take 4-5ozs of formula at a time and go down easy. Could this be the prevacid? I just want all my ducks in a row before we see the GI dr. on Tuesday.

InactiveOh I also wanted to note that when I give him his meds with apples, pears and sometimes mangos mixed with oatmeal he eats better but has more spit up. Could it be the oatmeal coating his tummy that helps or is it that this way the meds are less effective.

InactiveI’ve been wondering the same thing. We switched from losec a week ago, and since then she’s been up all night, and moving around like she just can’t get comfortable. Also passing a lot of gas…

InactiveIf your baby is sensitive to lactose, Prevacid Solutabs can give him a tummy ache. They contain some lactose. My son had obvious stomach discomfort for the first week of using Prevacid, but it passed. Maybe some babies can adjust to it with a little time.
Joel told me that my son should be getting 10mg 3x’s a day when he was 16-18 lbs. Maybe Jack isn’t getting enough. Joel is on vacation now but when he returns you can email him and ask him any questions about meds. He is very knowledgeable about these PPI’s. I’d still be doing it wrong if it wasn’t for Joel. Here’s his email andrewsjj@health.missouri.edu He will be back on the 29th I think he said.
Also, Prevacid should be given on an empty stomach or it will lose much of it’s effectiveness. A tiny bit of pears or applesauce to get it down is probably o.k., but I would keep it very small. (I was doing this wrong initially and only learned from these posts and Joel that this medication has to be given on an empty stomach and then followed by a full meal 30 minutes later). He also said something about the acid level of whatever you are giving the meds with matters – but I can’t remember which foods he said to avoid. Maybe someone else remembers. Is it pears? Or, apples?
I just dissolve the solutab in a tiny bit of water and give it to my son with a little syringe.
I hope some of this helps

Keymasterfrom Prevacid 101(scroll down to the last purple post
): https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1936&a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;PN=0&TPN=1there’s prevacid capsules. w/ the capsules you can open them up & sprinkle the beads on food if your baby is eating solids. otherwise, the beads from the capsules are a pain in the neck (dividing up tiny beads, etc) to deal with. (with the caracream you can get a kit where you break open the capsules & mix them up at home to make a liquid (it’s yummy) to give to your baby-but like I said this most likely is NOT an option
)there’s prevacid solutabs (tablets dissolve on the tongue, but many make their own ‘liquid’ out of them by dissolving it in water & then administering it). Many many many (the majority I’d say) have had AMAZING sucess with them! They do, however, contain lactose & ,which some have found to upset their babies- mainly babies with mspi (milk soy protein intolerance) & aspertame has upset some babies, too ( https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2661&a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;a mp;KW=aspertame).
Here’re some tips on how to administer the solutabs: https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=3066
How long before/after eating to administer: https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2789
