InactiveOk…Ariella’s scaring me a little. Whenever DH shows any affection (hugging me, touching the belly to feel the baby move), Ariella runs up to him and screams “no” while trying to push him away.

What’s going on?? I’m scared now! How is she going to react when she sees me holding the baby or breastfeeding it? I’m really worried now!December 15, 2007 at 2:15 pm #46410Anonymous
Inactivei think this is normal. i think she is jealous of not the baby as much as you …?? my niece actually did this with me when she was younger. whenever my husband (boyfriend at the time;) ) would hug me she would come on over and sit inbetween us! haha. i am sure she will LOVE the baby.. don’t worry!! 🙂

InactiveWelcome to a whole new set of issues when you go from one to two children! I have to laugh, you just wait…
When Carter was a baby and cried a lot and required a lot of attention as all babies do. One day carter was on the floor waiting for one of us to pick him up and Dylan announced “Carter needs to go outside!” picked him up, put him out on the porch and closed the sliding glass door!
I don’t know if any of you watch LOST, but do you remember the episode when Charlie drowns in the station and he writes on his hand “Not Penny’s boat”, well David and I were hysterical, as Carter was not sure what the heck Dylan was doing, and we could see him from inside with his hands pressed against the glass and that is the only thing the both of us thought of
Anyway, I guess what I am saying, is it is normal, and they will have a love/hate relationship as all siblings do and they will do great together!I have to say our sense of humor has grown exponentially since having children.Ann MarieDecember 15, 2007 at 3:08 pm #46414hellbennt
Keymaster
umm yeah, there was the time that john walked into jonah’s room to find jonah dragging ari by the arms across the floor…ari didn’t really even complain much, I think he was puzzled as to what the heck was going on…ANYWAY: the best advice I ever got was to never ‘blame’ the baby when I was busy with something- so for example, if I was changing Ari and Jonah was hollering for me to come to him, then I’d say “Mama’s hands are busy right now, I’ll be right there
!” This sounds like such a ‘small’ thing, but I truly feel it helped! This way it was my hands that were to ‘blame,’ not Ari or ‘the baby’as for breastfeeding: another piece of advice I got & used was this: first thing, even at the hospital, when I breastfed Ari, I snuggled up w/ Jonah and he had a snack (snack time for baby and for big brother
) and some juice (a treat bcse at home he doesn’t get juice, lol) and I read him a book. Actually, the book was ‘from’ Ari- I said “look Jonah, here’s a book that Ari is giving you!” (you could even wrap it up- I didn’t but that’s because I don’t really wrap anything
)…so I did this a lot at the beginning- used my brestfriend nursing pillow (LOVE THIS!!!) and got Ari all situated to breastfeed him and then I would give a small snack (string cheese or apple slices, whatever) to Jonah & read him a book or two…does Marianna have a favorite doll or stuffed animal? you could give her a newborn diaper and she could pretend to change her baby, etc…I gave Jonah a doll sling, LOL!!! here’s Jonah wearing his moose:http://shutter07.pictures.aol.com/data/pictures/06/002/7F/6E/13/52/EQe7ZRsblUYobvmNubERY-4QBqVhm4zp0300.jpgSo I think helping her feel important, needed, etc will help. She can bring you things (diaper, wipes, or just make things up that you ‘need’ LOL!) and you & dh can make a BIG DEAL how she’s SUCH A GOOD HELPER!!!!

InactiveKaelyn was really anxious to help and we praised her constantly for the smallest little things, so our transition wasn’t too bad. Although, honestly, I think being on complete bedrest for three weeks before Alex was born turned out to be the best thing that could have happened to us. Kaelyn didn’t connect Alex to the fact that I couldn’t do anything with her for quite a while, and when I came home with the baby I was actually able to do more with Kaelyn than I’d been able to do before! So, our situation was definitely not “normal”.

InactiveAnn Marie, Laura…Somehow I don’t doubt that Ariella will do things like dragging her brother across the room or sticking her fingers in his eyes. (Oh, by the way, we found out we’re having a boy :)) She just fits the “profile” lol

InactiveCongrats on the baby Boy! How lucky are you? A girl and a boy!! So jealous!!! Anyways, Alexis was the same way, everytime DH gave me hugs or kisses she would scream and push him away from me, but never reacted that way when Taylor came, she just adored her. Now they fight a lot but it is typically over things and not me! We were very lucky that she never tried to do anything to her sister, but she did love her too much at 4 months and “tried to help” her by turning her around to another toy in the exersaucer and in doing so got her arm caught in one of the other toys and ended up pulling her elbow out!! The joy of two little ones!

InactiveSue…I’m sure they’ll fight when he’s older and will want to play with her toys. *sigh* Thank you for your congrats on the boy, everyone. No, we didn’t think of any boy names yet. Now that I’m pregnant with a boy, all I come across is cute girls’ names. C’mon now! Lauren, what post are you talking about?

InactiveLaura, the funny thing is that we wanted to name her either Ariella, Daniella or Gabriella :)) I was thinking of Jonathan but DH dislikes it greatly (don’t want to use the word “hate”) for whatever reason 🙁 Keep the suggestions coming! It’s fun 🙂
