InactiveA little back history…we first tried Zantac & Axid with little H and neither one of them helped and in fact he seemed to get worse.
Yesterday, the ped put him on Prevacid powder. We are to mix up a 1/4 of the packet for a week and if we don’t see a difference, then he can get 1/2 of the packet.
Anyway….he’s had it twice now (yesterday and this morning) and he’s only to get it once a day, but both times I gave it to him, he immediately spit it all back up. What do I do? I really don’t want to medicate again, jic some of it actually did stay down, but I don’t think it was enough to help him.

InactiveMore ?’s….
I keep reading and finding conflicting info…
Ped has him taking the DR prevacid, ONE time a day, before he eats, but said it was fine for him to eat right after (I’m reading he needs to wait 30-min to an hour and that most doses are given THREE times a day)
My baby is 4.5mths old and weighs around 14.5lbs and is on 1/4 of a 15mg packet

InactiveMarci-kids says this
“Your child, who is 4.5 months old and weighs 6.4 kg, should receive a dose of 7 to 10 mg of Prevacid delivered 3 times per day for a total of 21 to 30 mg per day.
Prevacid 15 mg Oral Suspension packets (lansoprazole) should be administered on an empty stomach and 30 minutes to 1 hour before a full meal.
The packet should not be divided into multiple doses. The entire contents of the packet should be given with each dose. “
Not even close….

InactiveLike Melanie said you shouldn’t divide the pkts up. Actually I agree with all of what she said, but just wanted to comment about the pkts. My dr had me doing the same thing and Joel from Marci-kids explained it like this, there are beads in the prevacid that need to be taken and the only way to make sure you get the same amt. of beads in each dose is to pull them all out and count them. That would be a huge pain the rear. I’m not quite sure why docs don’t know that, but apparently they don’t. We ended up doing zegerid because we didn’t have to time around meals and well, I felt like it probably worked better. It is more expensive, but if we have another refluxer that is probably what we would do again.

InactiveI am not sure about the packets, but I agree with what you read as well.
We did other forms of prevacid and needed to wait 30 min to an hour before feeding him. We also needed to make sure it was on an empty stomach. I dont know much about kg’s either.. but if you know lb’s here is an example. When my son was 17 pounds he was able to have 30 mg’s of prevacid. When he was 14ish pounds he was on 22 mg’s of prevacid. And we gave it twice a day.. most ped’s say once will last 24 hours but it def. DOES NOT.December 19, 2007 at 6:21 pm #46553hellbennt
Keymasteryou can split up the packets, but it’s the BEADS you split up (not the packets mixed with water- you don’t mix it all up & then split it up then and you don’t split it by just eyeballing the powder/bead mixture and splitting that in half)…
So: you take a strainer and sift through the powder and get the beads. then, you divide them into 2 doses. and then, you can use a bit of the powder to mix with the beads to give it some flavor- you make it as thick or thin as you need to- whatever works-Prevacid 101(last post on the page): https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1936&PN=0&TPN=1December 20, 2007 at 4:15 am #46570Anonymous

If they aren’t exactly the same it doesn’t matter (don’t bother counting those beeds
