So, I took my ds to the pedi and she suggested Neocate, but wanted me to call the insurance to see what’s covered first. So, they’ll cover it (THANK GOD!!!) with preauthorization first, but they will want to know how much I’ll need first. I know the formula/water ratio is different. How much will I need. He hardly eats at all right now without a huge battle. He’s 8 weeks old and will take about 2-3 oz every 4-5 hours, maybe.

Each can makes 84 ounces and I believe there are 4 cans to a case? Can’t remember now, but think that is correct. So you figure if you are making 4 ounce bottles whether Nicholas is eating it all or not, every 3 hours or so??? then that is 32 ounces a day. I would say that every can will last you 2 1/2 days (for spillage, waste, etc..) so for a month you will need 12 cans, or 3 cases. This is a nice round number and that way you will have enough when Nicholas starts eating more as well.

How is the Neocate working? I have been considering switching from Neutramagin to Neocate but the cost is hard to swallow. Which insurance company are you with? My son Cody is almost 5 months old. He is on 15ml of prevacid, mylanta like it is going out of style and Neutrmagin. Cody’s little tummy just bubbles and girgles all the time. Does this sound like your chilsd symptoms?

Haven’t started the neocate yet, but will let you know hwo it’s working when I do. I needed to know how much I’d need so I could let the insurance know.

Call APria Home Healthcare–or another home care provider–they delivered our Neocate to us and it was covered 100% by our insurance!! If we bought it ourselves at the pharmacy it would NOT have been covered at all!

Good luck to you all…the Neocate really helped Dagney!

How long did it take for the neocate to kick in? We are on night 2 and having a REALLY rough time!!! It seems like Cody’s tummy is cramping a lot! We switched from Neutramagin. Cody was screaming more this evening than I have heard from him in a long time. What do you think I should do?

We actually haven’t started it yet. My insurance company wanted to know how much (in general) we would need each month in order for them to approve the Neocate. I’m a total math idiot, so I thought I’d be best to ask moms that know. Sorry I can’t help, but I know there are tons of moms on here that will be able to help you!!

For us, the Neocate made a difference within a week. There was blood (on the microscopic level) in my daughter, Zara’s, stool and one week later it tested negative.
