InactiveI have been on TED since Friday. I feel like I am starving. I try to eat a lot but still feel hungry. I am not seeing any improvments in my son’t fussiness, gassiness and all the stuff he was doing before I went on TED. I had cut out dairy almost a week before I started TED.
How long does it take to se any results on TED. For reference my son is on 15mg prevacid solutab. He would have been on it two weeks this coming Friday. We give him one dose at night on an empty stomach. He weighs about 10lbs. He seems to have pain when he tries to poop. He is also very gassy. He arches, extends his body, grunts and seems extremely uncomfortable when he is eating or trying to poop. His pediatrician wants me to put him on alimentum for two weeks and see what happens but I haven’t given up on breastfeeding yet.His poops are back to normal yellow color.ThanksJanuary 15, 2008 at 4:30 pm #47381hellbennt
Keymasterwell, his poops are back to normal
. so you are seeing something!I’m sorry you’re feeling starving & discouraged
you’ll be at the end of the diet before you know it!the diet is a 2 week diet…AND you’re almost at the 2 week point with the prevacid!good things might be right around the corner!you could try splitting the dose into 2 doses, as the one dose will not ‘carry’ through for the full 24hrs…but I’ve already posted this so I’ll stop
if after the TEd there are no changes, then you can eat whatever you want
! but, you did say that his poops are back to normal, so something in your diet is helping with that…most likely the no milk/soy proteins…hang in there!!!January 15, 2008 at 10:01 pm #47401Anonymous
Inactivemybuttercup-I have been cutting out dairy as well but have not gone to TED yet….I am not sure what you are exactly supposed to eat on TED. Are you following it to a tee like Dr. Sears recommends? That is my next step since I cant get to the ped GI doc for a few weeks (close to 4) and the zantac does nothing…. I am worried that the doc will recommend formula as well, which for me is not really an option….

InactiveBig hugs. It is so hard. All I have been eating are pears, rice, brown rice bread or millet bread (both of these are sweetened by some fruit juice, I wonder if these are ok), turkey, lamb, zuchini, pear juice, pear jam, sweet potato, yellow squash.
I also ate quinoi. It is not part of the TED diet but somebody on another post said it was ok. I am not eating it anymore just in case it is the problem. I am also cutting out the rice and millet breads since they have some fruit juices as well as the pear jam.I am so praying it will work.January 16, 2008 at 9:03 am #47405hellbennt

So it sounds like the TED is helping a bit??? His stools are ‘back’ to normal. What were they like before? [/QUOTE]mybuttercup wrote: I am not seeing any improvments in my son’s fussiness, gassiness and all the stuff he was doing before I went on TED.
well, the TED might not help this. This is where medication can come into play….mybuttercup wrote: How long does it take to se any results on TED.
it can take a full 2 weeks, possibly 3 weeks but if you’re not seeing major effects by 2 weeks, then I would just do 2 weeks. HOWEVER, you say that his stools are back to normal, so I would not add milk or soy back to your diet because once you add them back in it’ll take another 2 weeks (or 3) to get the proteins back out of your system if you see that adding them back in made the stools not normal.mybuttercup wrote: my son is on 15mg prevacid solutab. are you following it by a meal 30 minutes later?also, I’ve said it before: I would give TWO doses- babies have very fast metabolisms, so the one dose zooms through his system and does not carry through for a full 24 hours, like it would w/ an adult.mybuttercup wrote: His pediatrician wants me to put him on alimentum for two weeks and see what happens but I haven’t given up on breastfeeding yet.
your milk IS alimentum. in fact, your milk is like NEOCATE (at the end of 2 weeks of no milk or soy, not even hidden milk or soy) because you have no milk or soy proteins in your milk. So why try alimentum if alimentum HAS MILK PROTEINS and (soon) your milk (will) does not.mybuttercup wrote: He seems to have pain when he tries to poop. He is also very gassy. you say his stools are normal. so he’s not constipated or having loose stools. they are mustardy, seedy, almost pastey, sometimes more watery than others, normal breastfed baby stools. maybe some mylanta cherry supreme can help with the fussiness- try giving some right before feeding…HANG IN THERE!!!!January 16, 2008 at 10:02 am #47412Anonymous
InactiveThanks so much for your help Laura. I think the stools going back to normal color is due to the fact that I have been nursing him on the same breast twice or three times in a row so he is getting more hindmilk. Before I think he was getting too much foremilk and not enough hindmilk.
I really am not seeing any difference with the TED. I wasn’t planning on starting back on milk or soy products even after the two weeks. I am not big on dairy to begin with. The only dairy I was eating was cheese and yogurt and I have stopped that completely about 2 -3 weeks ago.January 16, 2008 at 9:01 pm #47424Anonymous
InactiveARG! Just typed a big response and lost it! Ok, I’ll try to summarize…
TED didn’t help reflux wise for us, but it did help Ben to sleep better (naps) and he was happier in the afternoon. the fussy, gassy baby that was colicky in the evenings gradually went away… He seemed more comfortable overall too.I was on TED for a LONG Time…. months, mainly because I could never tell if he was bothered by foods when I added them back in.. he would have good and bad days… so I know what you mean by STARVING! Try adding in the Lay’s potato chips. They saved my life! I was so skinny, my veins were sticking out! Gained it all back now!
I’m glad to hear that the block nursing is helping. It was key for us too. How is the OAL going? Are you taking him off the breast or lying down, etc.?Also, I think Laura’s suggestion about the Prevacid dose is good one. We had to give three doses because Ben’s would wear off so quickly.HANG IN THERE!January 16, 2008 at 9:49 pm #47430Anonymous
InactiveFor us, we saw great results from the TED within only 2 days — but I think that’s earlier than usual. By great results, I mean that the feedings were calm and peaceful. Nathan still fussed all day and slept terribly, but a high dose of Prevacid has really helped with that.
I really sympathize with you on the starving issue. I stayed on the strict TED for 2 weeks, then VERY slowly added foods back into my diet. I’m still adding, but I’m such a big chicken that I don’t wanna mess up what we’ve got going…Anyway, I agree with Naomi on the potato chips — they are so convenient, and I’ve eaten more bags in the last 6 months than all my previous years combined!!! Not the healthiest, but so convenient and quick. That’s the hardest thing about the TED to me, how time-consuming it is.Keep it up, and just know that you’re doing everything you can to help your little guy!! You’ll be so glad you did the TED when it’s all over with, whether or not it helps your son. Please keep us posted.January 17, 2008 at 5:59 pm #47439Anonymous
InactiveIt still takes a good two weeks for dairy proteins to get out of my milk. I have learned as old as my son is now to try him on dairy that way we only have a few sleepless nights instead of weeks of sleepless nights. As Laura said your breastmilk without the offending proteins is like neocate even better really. You are an amazing mom and making a sacrafice that many moms wouldn’t make. I also did TED and it is tough, but so worth it if you find out what is bothering your baby. Keep up the good work.
