InactiveThank you Hellbent for introducing me to these forums! I’m not sure if this is the place for me but I was hoping you moms could tell me.
In November I had twins born 6.5 pounds each and taken via c/section at 37 weeks. They never even went to the NICU- didn’t need to. They came home with me from the hospital. In the beginning they didn’t nurse well- they were too tired and just slept all the time. But at about 5 weeks they really turned around. They started nursing longer and staying awake during feedings. But they also started to cry more.
Now Sisi will nurse and then after she’s done within 10 minutes she’ll start to squirm and fuss, then she’ll spit up and burp, then she’ll calm down and goes to sleep. She’s easy.Greenbean, my boy, will nurse and occasionally start crying in the middle of nursing. He starts squirming and crying and will try to latch on but then squirm and fuss again. Sometimes he’ll nurse then fall asleep and wake up in 10 minutes and fuss until he’s held. And he doesn’t want to be held cradle-style. He wants to be held upright. Sometimes he’ll calm down after he burps but usually will not relax when he’s lying flat on his back. From about 6pm at night til 11pm he’ll cry unless he’s walked around in a Baby Bjorn or Moby wrap. Every night it’s the same story. And sometimes Sisi will do the same at night. But Greenbean is the tough one.Greenbean is on Zantac but I’m not sure it’s working and he’s been on it for 2 weeks. I eliminated coffee and most dairy and soy (at least the main things- milk, yogurt, ice cream, etc.) and that seems to have helped but I really think that Greenbean is in pain when he’s laying on his back. I can’t even let him lay on a Gymini for long before he starts to cry. My first 2 kids LOVED that thing and sometimes would fall asleep on it.So, that’s the story. Can anyone tell if this IS reflux I”m dealing with? Or is it just bad gas (because the twins are constantly passing gas and have bubbling bellies). I’m pretty much on my own with the twins after 10pm. So this is challenging.I appreciate any help you can offer.January 19, 2008 at 8:52 am #47492hellbennt
Keymasterwelcome! maybe a tucker sling and wedge would help keep your little guy elevated? in the meantime, try elevating where he sleeps and the changing table- our crib allowed us to put the mattress on an angle…
anyway I don’t know a lot about the tucker sling & wedge 9it’s for sleeping) but there have been many here who have had great success w/ it- I say to look over the forum & even do a search & you’ll learn more about it…what are babies’ stools like? if they’re normal mustardy seedy stools w/ an occasional green diaper here & there, or an occasional mucousy diaper here & there, then not to say it’s not your diet, but… it just might not be your diet- some tell tale signs of it being your diet are:mucousy diapers (stringy) and/or green diapers- either green & foamy or green & watery or green & stringy (TMI? sorry
). also, if you see flecks in the diaper, like coffee grounds, that’s ‘something’ too…anychance you have OAL? that’s overactive letdown/foremilk/hindmilk imbalance. this can exacerbate reflux as well…about OAL :http://www.users.qwest.net/~fsdebra1/refluxoal.htmlJanuary 19, 2008 at 12:32 pm #47495Anonymous
InactiveYou know, he did have green foamy stools until I gave up the majority of my dairy and the coffee. But lately I’ve noticed that he only poops about every 4 days. And then when he does go, it’s a TON. I have no idea if that has something to do with his fussing, but it certainly can’t feel good, can it? His stools are now yellow and very foamy. Sorry if TMI but I try to tell this stuff to my ped and she just kind of poo-poos me away (no pun intended) saying it’s all “normal” and maybe he’s just colicy.

Keymasterthe foamy has me thinking OAL. I would read up about it and see what you think/feel. scroll down to the 4th post by Bensmama & read
this to see what you think:you could even call la leche and ask about it:The La Leche League Breastfeeding Helpline – US began on June 1, 2007. InactiveI would say if eliminating most dairy has helped out maybe even taking it all out would do wonders for him. It definantly helped my little guy.

InactiveHi Lisa
Good to see you here too! Cutting out most dairy has helped Khoi too.We did a bunch of stool/blood tests & she came up positve for Milk Protein allergy. This was a few months back & I got the bright idea to try to re-introduce it to her at almost 9 months. Bad idea, she puked & puked. Frothy stools, etc. What your describing w/ your tots sounds a lot like what we went through with the reflux/allergy issue. It’s such a long road to find out exactly what works for each child too.Zantac did nothing for Khoi. Prevacid has helped tremendously. If I can help out w/ any question please let me know. Hellbent is SO SO informative, she has helped me TONS!Trina 🙂 -
