InactiveI have noticed that certainbaby foods have made Aiyana’s acid worse. Such as anything with apple(A dr.said apples have more acid than oranges),peaches, & cornstarch. BUt,now the problem is the fruit she can have is limited because everything is mixed with apples or is just plain acidy like pineapples, mango, peaches etc. So all that is left are pears and prunes.DOes anyone know of something else that won’t cause acid???

And as far as the food is concerned I’m stuck giving her just turkey and various vegetables, because all the other meat meals have cornstarch or onion powder(which the dr.said oninons and garlic make reflux worse).

InactiveWhat about bananas? Natural antacid. And avocado (which is a fruit, not a vegetable).
As for meat meals, you can try to make your own – for example, boil
some chicken meat with (or without) a potato and blend it all up…April 5, 2006 at 9:32 am #5419Anonymous
InactiveHi, when Seth was just starting solids we did stick to mainly bananas and pears for fruit. He can tolerate other fruit like applesauce fine now and perhaps could have then but we just stayed away from them as a precaution. I wanted to ask though what type of baby foods you are using? We used Beechnut and they always had less additives such as the onion, cornstarch, etc. than the Gerber brands.
Karen, what do you mean about bananas being a natural antacid? Oddly enough, I gave Seth some for dinner last night and his reflux was better last night (we also gave more Mylanta than usual though too).

InactiveTiffany, my old GI doc told me that about bananas and I found some
information about it online too. Supposedly they really do act as a
natural antacid and help coat the esophagus? Not sure but I wish Marisa
liked them more – I give them once in a while but she’s not a huge fan.April 5, 2006 at 8:25 pm #5454hellbennt
KeymasterI don’t have my welcome/intro link handy & I’m in a bit of a rush, but if you look there, threre’s a bunch of links- finger foods and feeding your mspi toddler and more- to help with this issue
…you can make some of your own baby food- try papaya or melon…and there’s more ideas from the links…

InactiveWe suspect an allergy to bananas because when we tried giving them to her she would cough. I don’t know if the coughing is unrelated, but we figure better to be safe than sorry.
Thanks to all who responded, and Laura I will check it out.
