InactiveMy 6 week old daughter, Jacqueline, is on Prevacid SoluTablet. We are not seeing much of a change yet, we had to call and convince our doctor to up the amount (from 1/2 tablet once a day to a whole tablet once a day – 15 mg.) We are frustrated and tired – as I’m sure all parents are – but one thing we seek advice on is how to give her the medicine. We were told to dissolve it in 5-10 mg of water and give it to her with a medicine dropper. Well, she gags and it runs out of her mouth and she ends up with the granuals of the tablet all over her chin and neck – not to mention the amount of medicine still stuck inside the medicine dropper. We have also tried a bottle, but that didn’t work either.
Any tips on giving the medicine is much appreciated.
Thank you!

InactiveHi and welcome!
I can tell you 2 things that seem to work well:What we did (even at the YOUNG age of 5ish weeks old) was place the half of a SoluTab on a rubber-tipped baby spoon and add just a few drops of water on top- just enough to moisten it. The baby will usually open his mouth to the spoon if you put it to his lips. Then you can just plop the moist SoluTab into his mouth. That way no granules are lost. We did it this way for a LONG time.Another way a lot of moms do it is to hold the SoluTab inside the cheek until it starts dissolves, then wash it down with a squirt of water. 🙂I hated the instructions it came with b/c the beads got stuck in the syringe!Make sure you dose the SoluTab on an EMPTY stomach and then feed the baby 30 mins later. This is VERY important for the meds to work right! If you have any other questions- ask away!September 19, 2008 at 2:14 pm #56870Anonymous
InactiveDitto to what Jill said. The cheek trick worked the best for us. Spoon not as successful.

Keymasterit can take up tp 14 vdays for you to see the effect of the prevacid
are you giving it on an empty stomach followed by a meal 30 minutes later?also you might want to try giving 2 doses of 15mgs bcse babies have fast metabolisms & she might just ‘zip’ through the meds and then need more later… -
