For those breastfeeding moms out there. . .do any of your children react badly when you have artificial sweetener in your diet?

I, of course, feel perhaps I should eliminate that one diet iced tea I drink each day. . . .because one can never give up too much from one’s diet (not that I have a bad attitude or anything. . . .:0) I just feel I need to get to the bottom of all this crankiness without doing the elecare trial.

I did not remove aspertame or any artificial sweetner, but I didn’t/drink a lot of it…maybe one drink a day, if that even…

when is the crankiness? if it’s the sweetner, my guess is that you’d see a reaction 3 to 4 hrs after drinking the tea. If you see this reaction on a regular basis then it might be the tea…otherwise, it could be something else, or it could have nothing to do w/ what you’ve eaten…it can be so hard…oh yeah, solutabs have aspertame, too…

Everything is such a darn guessing game. . .

Maybe because he is taking the solutabs he is then overreacting to the artificial sweetner I am drinking. HMMMM

Hi Ruby, I was told to avoid all aftificial sweetners while pregnant and nursing. I don’t know if it contributes to his irritability or not, though.

Is Henry better lately??? Are you going to try find another doctor to increase his Prevacid dose?

Is he always cranky at the same time? I think in another post you said it was afternoon time.

I really feel for youand I hope you get to the bottom of it soon, and that Henry will be feeling better.

Christine,

Thank you for asking about Henry. I really don’t know what to do. I’ve exhausted our avenues here for doctors. My husband feels perhaps we should just accept this is how Henry is and know that eventually he will grow out of it.

To sum it up: he doesn’t spit up as much as he used to, he is gaining weight fine, and he sleeps through the night. Afternoons and evenings he is extremely cranky to hysterical. Maybe what is left is colic? I just hope it isn’t his personality that is left!!

If it is pain it is NOT ‘just how he is’ & you’ll have to hang in there and continue to be the best advocate you can be for your son, just like you’re doing now! You can do it, mama!

Do you have any zantac? can you get some?

Can you find another ped maybe, one who will work with you?

Hi again Ruby,

I was wondering…you said he sleeps well at night (that’s great!!). How about during the day? Does he take any good naps? Could he just be over tired?

Have you tried Mylanta Cherry Supreme before feedings?

How does Mylanta work? I never used that before. How would the Zantac work with the prevacid?

Usually Henry takes a 1 hour nap in the morning. The afternoon nap is tougher. On a good day he sleeps 2-3 hours in the afternoon. On a bad day he wakes screaming every thirty minutes.

People keep telling me they think Henry is “just bored.” He DOES do better in novel situations, or at the mall or around others; however, I WISH it was that simple!

zantac should be given at least 2hrs serperate, if not more (2-5hrs) , from the prevacid- you can give mylanta & zantac together, or close together- there’s no real ‘set’ dose on mylanta- if you give too much you’ll see loose stools…

He probably does better in novel situations because it helps distract him from what ever is bothering him. I don’t think he’s screaming because he’s bored!

I’d definitely try the Mylanta before his afternoon bottles. And like Laura said, Zantac may help with break through acid. Maybe your doc would be willing to let you use Zantac in the afternoon since he won’t increase his Prevacid (which is probably what the poor little guy really needs).

I sure hope things get better soon.
