Has anyone ever used or is using the Parent’s Choice formula (Wal mart)? I’ve heard that nutritionally it is the same, but I’m hesitant because I’ve never used it. So far, no formula that we have used has reduced her reflux and spitting up.

(formula might not affect reflux or spitting up…formula does affect babies who are mspi (milk/soy protein intolerance) or have a milk/soy allergy…

zantac might not be ‘enough’ – many babies ‘move on’ to a PPI

I’m sorry. I didn’t word my post very well. That was my fault. I was thinking to much and not writing enough. What I meant about the formula was: Is it nutritionally ok? And does anyone have any experience with it?

So far, no formula that we have used has reduced her reflux and spitting up. I meant: Since no formula seems to help with the reflux: Cheaper (as long as its ok) would be better.

ahhh! you make a good point! I bet it’s fine as far as nutriton goes- most store brands are really ‘regular’ brands in disguise…but no, I don’t know anything about it…

I know someone who uses it. She said she switched from GoodStart to that brand because “her daughter was spitting up from the GoodStart” and she found for some reason she tolerated this one better. I also know someone who used the Loblaws brand with good success. I think if you compare you’ll find they’re usually all the same nutritionally.

I’m pretty sure all store brand formulas are actually made by the exact same company. I know people who use the store brand and are very happy with it.

In general, all baby and infant formula brands that are sold in the US must meet the minimum nutritional requirements of the the ‘Infant Formula Act’ and FDA regulations.

So I don’t think it matters if you go with store brand or not, they should all meet the same nutritional standards

Oddly enough, my cousin swears that her son spit up more from any
formula with added DHA/ARA then one without – and the one without was
cheaper too (I think she just used GS regular). She said that a lot of
babies are not tolerating DHA/ARA because it is not the same additive
found in breastmilk. The fatty acid chain
known as DHA/ARA in formula is made from fungus and seaweed. The AAP
has never come out and said that they
endorse the additive.They have yet to make a decison. They just said it
was safe according to the FDA.

The study on the DHA/ARA additive was only 12-16 months long.

Studies also have not concluded whether the additive that is put in formula makes the difference that the additive in BM does.

Is there something to this? I have no idea – Marisa is on Alimentum, which DOES have DHA/ARA. But certainly worth a try.
