InactiveJust found out my insurance won’t cover it.

Perhaps I should try Prilosec first since Truman seemed to have a bad reaction (abdominal cramping?) to the Prevacid.
Why does this have to be so hard?

InactiveOur insurance “covers” Zegerid but we still pay $40.00 so I would imagine it is quite expensive. You could probably print out the Zegerid coupons and that would be a monthly savings of $30- that would help a little but it would still be expensive. I also found I was saving money once Haden was on the right dose as we did not have to do all the other “meds” -Pepcid, Mylanta, etc…..
Or maybe you could have your GI/Ped fax a letter to your insurance company stating the reasons your child needs to be on this particular PPI (abdominal cramping, etc with the Prevacid.)
Good Luck!

InactiveAgreed with Floridagirl here. It would probably be pretty expensive out
of pocket but talk to your GI doctor and see if they will fax a letter
to the insurance company stating that he feels Zegerid is your child’s
only option. Also – how long was your son on the Prevacid for? Some babies here have
had abdominal cramping that stopped after a week or so. What form of
the Prevacid was he on? Did you try a different form?April 11, 2006 at 10:30 am #5888Anonymous
InactiveHello, Zegerid is very expensive. I pick up Emma’s script at Wal-mart and the info sheet that it comes with says it is over $200 for 30 packets. I would try the Prilosec first to see if that helps. I work for an insurance company and where I work if you can prove that other meds are not working you can try to get an exception. if the Prilosec doesn’t work, you can go through your work (or husbands work, whoever carries the insurance) and speak with your HR representative. They are the ones that can fight on your behalf to get something covered. Get a letter from your ped or GI, however wants to prescribe the Zegerid, and have them state what the diagnosis is, what other meds you have been on and that they are not working and why and give that letter to your HR and let them fight the insurance company for you. I have seen it happen all the time. I got Emma’s Alimentum covered that way!! Good luck.

InactiveThank you. I wonder if the online coupon can be used more than once. It seems like they would only let you use it one time.
Truuman was on the solutabs for 4 days. When I figured out it was the prevacid that was causing him so much pain I stopped giving it to him. (I never stopped the Zantac so his reflux shouldn’t have gotten that much worse).
It was hard enough getting my GI to prescribe prevacid. He says he’s never prescribed Zegerid so I think having him lobby the insurance company on my behalf is not likely. I think I’ll have to exhaust other means before he sees for himself that we should try the Zegerid.
I know some babies adjusted to the prevacid in time, it’s just so hard seeing him cry and suffer like that. It makes me want to try Prilosec instead.

KeymasterWhen I first started here on this reflux journey, I discovered a ‘miracle’ to help get PPIs into my baby. It was called Caracream (there was also Chocobase), and unfortunately
you can’t get it all that easily anymore. It can be used with prilosec or prevacid. To find out how you MIGHT be able to get caracream (or chocobase), click here: https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=5244 & look for the post just after my purple one
