InactiveOkay, I’ve gotten a bit confused with the formulas for dosage. Could someone please help me out?
My husband and I have decided to pay for the Zegerid ourselves and give it a month. If we see an improvement, it will be well worth it. And maybe we can even have our doctor convince our insurance company if it works well.
I just can’t imagine going through empty stomach dosing and then waiting another 30 minutes–three times a day!! This kid NEVER has an empty stomach!
BTW, does anyone know how long it takes for breastmilk to pass through their stomachs?
Thanks so much guys. Sorry to be such a pest with all of my questions but after yet another night of 90 minute wakings I need to find a solution pronto!

InactiveI hope you see an improvement!! We found that Haden definitely needed 3 doses a day. This really helped control the breakthru acid attacks. He is on 22mgs a day and is 16 pounds. In those first couple of days we still used Pepcid but after about a week we no longer needed that or Mylanta at all!! I would push for a good dose!
Breastmilk moves pretty quickly thru their little systems.

InactivePediatric Dosing for Omeprazole
Dosing dependent on age & weight-see chart below.Age Dose per day (mg/kg/ dose) < 3 months 1.5 mg/kg three times per day 3-6 months 1.25 mg/kg three times per day Here is the dosage from http://www.marci-kids.com. 18lbs/2.2=8.18 * 1.25 =10.23 so I am thinking they round that to 10mg/3 times a day which is what Emma is on so you would need the 20mg packets. The website gives more info on how to mix it!
I just have to add that Zegerid has worked wonders for us. Is there any other ped or GI that you could go to??

InactiveSaucy,
Brandy’s estimations are correct. The dose of Zegerid that Dr Phillips would recommend for your child would be 10 mg, 3 times per day for a total of 30 mg per day.
You should get the 20 mg packets and mix them in a large syringe at a 2 mg/mL concentration according to the instructions on the MARCI-Kids website by adding 6.5 mL of water to each packet. At this concentration, you should give 3 doses of 5 mL per day.
A meal (formula or breastmilk) usually takes about 2 hours to pass through a baby’s stomach completely.
