InactiveI am curious when your child/children were taken off of their reflux medication successfully.
My lil guy is 16 months and is still on Nexium. It is working great, but I hate him being on meds.
We have a appt. tomorrow with his GI and I would like to see about taking him off. I am just scared he will get his symptoms back and we will have to go through the whole process of getting him better again.
Any insight would be great!
TIA!

InactiveI voted for 15-18 months…BUT I weaned VERY slowly and did a milk trial first…so it *could* have possibly happened sooner.

InactiveDagney was about 22-23 months, we tried earlier, but she had flare-ups. So we put her back on the 30mg prevacid, and then got her on hidden dairy, then from prevacid to zantac, and cut out most tomatoes in the midst of it. I think if we cut the tomatoes out earlier, we could have weaned sooner…

Inactivei voted for 15-18 months b/c we started weaning very slowly at 14 months and were totally off meds at 16 months. I probably could have weaned earlier as he stopped spitting up around 10 months old, but like Amy I wanted to do a milk trial before I took the meds away.

InactiveIt was around 20 months for us… but he still took over the counter stuff (Tums or Pepcid) for a month or so after that.

KeymasterJonah was off the prevacid at 12 months but still taking zantac & tums ‘as needed’ up until 18 months I’d say- and then occasional Tums up to 3 yrs old…

InactiveKendra was of Zegerid at 20 month after we introduced plant based digestive enzymes. It seemed her reflux was caused by food intolerances.

InactiveWe thought Paige had been successfully weaned off of Prevacid at about 21 months as there weren’t any more apparent reflux signs. But her recent scopes show esophageal ulceration, so we’re back on it!
Just a thought, but you will likely get more replies in the older range on this poll, simply because those of us whose kids had severe reflux needing perhaps more than the average length of treatment are the ones still around on the board. Hopefully, the true average isn’t too long, and those parents don’t need to frequent this board any longer! -
