Hi, I really need some advice. We’ve been to 4 pediatricians and a GI specialist. My 3.5mo old son has been on 2mls axid and 15mgs prevacid per day for two months. That dosage worked for about a week in the beginning and hasn’t done much since. None of the dr’s would increase anything so we were hopeful that the GI would. His response was that the 15mgs was a good dose and he increased the axid to 6mls/day. That was 5 days ago. We are not seeing any improvement.

Should this dosing be sufficient? Marci-kids recommends almost 3x the ppi he’s getting, but how do I argue with a GI? I dont understand what the opposition is. Has anyone ever had to convince a dr to increase meds? If so, how did you do it?

what form is it: liquid, solutab or capsule?

if it’s liquid, you could look into getting bufferbabies to make your own liquid, bcse 9 times out of 10 when the pharmacy compounds it (makes it liquid) it isn’t stable and therefore isn’t effective

if it’s solutabs are you giving on an empty stomach followed by a meal 30 minutes later?

if it’s capsules, are you giving on an empty stomach followed by a meal 30 minutes later? are you opening up and giving on a teaspoon of applesauce and then feeding 30 minutes later?

are you giving in two doses or all at once? try two doses…

are you giving axid spaced 4hrs from the prevacid?

check to see that you’re giving highest dose for weight (seems that it might be now, since dr increased it, but doesn’t hurt to doublecheck…)?
