I'm going crazy!!- prevacid and zantac both

So I called in to the pediatrician in desperation and she said to give zantac just for 1 week until the prevacid kicked in. Miracle she was the happiest baby in the world. Then the week was over and the zantac was stopped (#2). Then 5 days later she started screaming again but this time it wasn’t as bad and also had some grunting as if she was trying to pass stools. But her bowels were coming out just fine, no constipation. So I thought okay maybe it isnt’ the reflux this time and maybe she is just having some trouble passing them. At this time we had an appt with a GI specialist set up from the prior week so we went and the GI specialist said that since she has had a problem 2 times going off of the zantac to go ahead and keep her on both prevacid and zantac. So we immediately started zantac again. All was going a bit better and then three days later the we saw the pediatrician for her 2 month shots.

She said her babies she has seen have only been on one medication and mentioned to stop prevacid and start taking zantac. I told her if we were to stop one medication I’d rather it be zantac because we saw the most improvements with prevacid (all while thinking maybe there was a chance the crying was just from her bowel passing issues the past few days). So off we went of the zantac AGAIN (#3). The next evening after haven’t been on it for 48 hours she was cooing and smiling and playing on her back BAMMMMMMM she started SCREAMING and CRYING so hard. It was like night and day. It had to be the reflux!!! I have seen this cry before. I know the difference between this and that whole new wonderful baby I had just a week prior. She cried all night long just miserable.

I guess she just needs both meds just like the GI specialist said. At the time I wasn’t so sure about that doctor because he just seemed to rush me and came across goofy and didn’t really evaluate my daughter very well. So I trusted the pediatrician more. However it seems the GI was right. I guess that is why he is a specialist. But I am just sooooooo overwhelmed and frustrated. Anyone experience anything like this?

However all the while in the midst of trying to figure out all her screaming and crying I put her on alimentum, cut dairy out of my diet, cut the breastmilk in half and supplemented with that formula and experimented with those reflux meds. I had no idea what was the cause of her screams. Now I feel so confident it is the reflux. Any suggestions? I am going to tell the pedi that I really want her on both meds. If she disagrees then I guess the GI doc is giving me the script anyways… Now… she is peacefully asleep after her dose of zantac 8 hrs prior. Can that one dose really make her content again? Is it just like her missing a dose? I don’t remember it kicking in that fast before. Maybe her system is just getting used to is. Any help would be appreciated!!
