InactiveMy 1st born child now 2 and a half had MSPI and reflux which he grew out of..we had him on formula and I never tried breastfeeding he ended up on neocate. Now my 2nd child 3 weeks old Ive been breastfeeding since day 1 and Ive been noticing the same pattern as with my son. So the peditrician started her on Zantac. She still has thrown up since being on it. And is EXTREMELY gassy (and the odor is horrible) even tho im not eating anything spicy or that should produce extra gas, in fact she seems more gassy then my 1st born ever was. She is pulling away at the breast and crying and only sleeping on average 1 hr a night. Her stools are mucusy and we are lucky if she has 1 a day which when we first brought her home she had 6 a day. I just dont know what to think. I havent eliminated any milk products from my diet because I do actually eat a lot of dairy between drinking 3 glasses of milk a day and eating cheeses, yogurts, etc. I dont want to cut these things out that I love unless it really is the issue and Ive heard it could take 6 weeks for the milk to completely leave your system, is this true? I plan on visiting the pediatrician once again but would like to know if anyone else breastfeeding has noticed these same things?

Keymasterthe gas is a BIG indicator. it may or not be your diet, but bcse of the foul-smelling gas, I would tend to think it is…
it should *only* take 2 weeks (maybe 3) for everything to clear out of your system…here is the link for the Dr Sear’s Totla Elimination Diet (TED): http://www.askdrsears.com/html/4/t041200.aspyou can do it! I did it! I was desperate and wanted to know for sure if it was anything in my diet. in MY case it really was not.there is a mama here named Erin (Erintx) and she’s working on compiling a lot of information & I actually have it (she went away for for a few days) so I can post it to help you as we go along…ME: I would start with the medication. I would figure out the MAXIMUM dose of zantac for weight and start there (10mgs per kilo). if that doesn’t work then I would ‘move’ on to a PPI. http://www.marci-kids.com is THE place to research all about infants & PPIs.I would also do the diet and take notes about gas and mucous in poop.so glad you found us!~lauraApril 23, 2009 at 6:08 pm #62240Anonymous
InactiveThis is the same thing I am going through right now with my six month old. I am on the Total Elimination diet right now on day 6 and his poops are becoming less mucuosy. It takes about 2 weeks for it to clear out of your system. Unfortunatly it isnt fun but it can be done
