InactiveHi everyone,
My name is Wendy Wick, and I have a 10 week old little boy with silent reflux. He is currently taking 1.3 ml of Zantac at night and a 15 mg solutab of prevacid at night. The dr. has to recalculate the dosage of zantac since Aidan is now 13.5 lbs and needs a higher dosage. We just started this medicine regimine on Saturday so I’m not sure how much of a difference it will make. Here’s my question. Aidan is strictly breastfed. Are there things I should be eliminating from my diet that will improve his symptoms? I gave up dairy a few weeks ago and am not sure if I’ve seen a difference. I have not eaten broccoli, onions, or citrus fruits.Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!WEndyApril 27, 2009 at 9:06 am #62302Anonymous
Inactivei’d give the meds a chance to work before i tried to change my diet. it can take up to 3 weeks for the irritation to clear up before they start to feel better.

InactiveI agree with Christine. Trying too many solutions at once is tempting because you just want baby to get better, and quick, but it’s better to try one thing at a time, so you know what is working and what isn’t. Plus, diet restrictions for a breastfeeding mama are NO FUN, so hopefully you can avoid that road altogether.

KeymasterWelcome!
are you giving the prevacid solutab on an empty stomach followed by a meal 30 minutes later? this is how to administer it so it is most effective.is your med schedule working for your baby? http://www.marci-kids.com is THE place to research all about PPIs (proton pump inhibitors such as prilosec, prevacid, nexium & protonix) and their proper dosing for babies/toddlers. they are at the FOREFRONT of research in this area/field.you might find that your baby needs more ‘coverage’ – sounds like that’s why the 2 meds. you’ve already discovered that zantac is very weight sensitive. prevacid is, too. you might just find that splitting the prevacid dose into 2 doses, along w/ the highest dose of zantac for weight, will give baby more ‘coverage’ ie longer lasting relief…you can give both meds, but you need to space the 2 (zantac and prevacid) meds 4hrs apart.the maximum dose for zantac by weight is 10mgs per kilo.please go to the Introduce Yourself Forum & click on the sticked (top) post called Groupie Intro. it’s looong, but will HELP YOU
. look for a post called ‘prevacid 101’ as well as links to explain the zantac dosing. RESEARCH is key (don’t ‘just’ take my word/our words for everything, although we are right
, LOL!)…as for diet: Groupie Intro has links and info about all of that, too.to be honest, I would address the meds first- checking the zantac dose as well as the prevacid dose as well as addressing the proper administration of the two… -
