InactiveMy dd (who will be 8 months in 2 days) gets rashes when I tried any solids like rice, oatmeal, apple, beans, peas,SP. She starts spitting up more and wakes up more in night. These things clear slowly when I stop any solids (that too I have never tried more than 2 tsp of solids/day). I read lots about bananas and after trying that for 4 days, she is heavily constipated with sand paper-kind rashes all over her face.
I feel terrible..I was in all hopes that solids might help with reflux and could be an end to her feeding aversion…looks nothing helps…

InactiveI’m sorry that your solid trials are going so poorly. Bananas can definitely be constipating. They are part of the BRAT diet that doctors recommend when you have diarrhea.

Keymasterbananas are also related somehow to latex and there are babies who are allergic (but I find from being on this board there can be reactions to almost anything!)
have you tried pear? avocado? squash? zuccini? papaya? I tried a lot of ‘interesting’ food

InactiveKim, thanks for the tip, I thought bananas were laxative in nature!!!
Laura, my dd seemed to hate papaya..I tried all regular veg/fruits for allergic babies, dd got rashes on all of them…how long you feel I should wait after banana disaster to try a new trial? I dont want to wait too long and get into strange issues like sensory problems. I have no strength left in me for facing new problems

I did shop this weekend at Whole food market for my dd.

I really don’t know- four or five days? a week? I think this should help? (http://allergyadvisor.com/Educational/December_2.htm scroll down to āCā orange/mustard box-it’s the SECOND orange/mustard box)

she seemed to hate it, but did she have a reaction? If she didn’t have any reaction, then I’d consider this a ‘safe’ food & keep introducing it to her- sometimes it takes a few (hundred, LOL!) times for a baby to like/show interest in a food…

what ‘regular’ foods? you listed: rice, oatmeal, apple, beans, peas,SP, banana
did you try barley? pear? avocado? squash? zuccini? I’m just trying to think of other foods…
I’m sorry this is so difficult for you!!!

InactiveJust wanted to say that my daughter gets a face rash each time she has solids too, but in her case, it is simply sensitive skin and not necessarily a reaction to the food. Her face breaks out in a rash due to the food rubbing on her face plus the washcloth when I wipe her face off. (She also gets a rash when she rubs her face against someone’s shirt if they use fragrance detergent or perfume — very sensitive!!) She doesn’t show any other signs of allergies to the food, such as vomiting, diaper rash, pooping problems, etc. So sometimes it might just be sensitive skin but if you have other allergy signs, then probably an allergy.
