We’re going to the pedi tomorrow and I’m going to ask to be switched to Nexium from Prevacid. LO seems to have MSPI and the prevacid from what I hear has Lactose in it.
Can anyone give me the proper dosage for Nexium for a 4 month old who weighs approx. 18 to 20 lbs? I looked on Marci-kids and I didnt see anything for Nexium, only Prevacid and Zeregrid.
You shouldn’t have to worry about the lactose in the prevacid as lactose is a milk sugar not a milk protein. If you aren’t having any problems with the prevacid then I wouldn’t switch. My lo had MSPI and did wonderfully on prevacid and so have many other MSPI babies. HTH.
thx! actually, the prevacid isn’t working anyway. i’ve upped his dose from 15mg/day to 22.5/day and then 30/day. nothing helps. it makes me sad because it worked great for a month…
if a ‘proper’ dose of prevacid, administered properly (given on an empty stomach followe by a meal 30 min later), did not help then it might be time to try neocate?
Well, he’s breastfed and I’d REALLY like to keep him breastfed only. He’s doing well and I cut dairy/soy out of my diet on Monday. I’d rather see how the elimination of those work before I make the move to formula. If he has MSPI, he has it fairly mildly. He has silent reflux and sleeps badly (needs to comfort nurse all night), but he’s in the 90% percentile and is usually pretty happy except when he has a flare up. The flare ups are happening pretty regularly where two weeks ago the were non-existent. The big issue is sleep.
(go to upper right-hand corner of this page & ckick on ‘settings’ and then you can update you Signature to put this info as well as baby’s age, meds, doses of meds, MSPI, etc)
you most CERTAINLY can try diet! I even tried the TED (total elimination diet)…
