InactiveMy daughter has an MSPI and reflux. We recently discovered that she has a problem with processed baby food. For example, she can tolerate regular banana but not gerber banana. We stopped feeding her the gerber oatmeal and her sleep improved dramatically in less than a week.
We do not know if it is the additives or the trace amounts of milk/soy in the food (that are not listed on the packaging).
I wanted to share our experience in hopes that maybe it will help someone else. I am now making all of her food and she seems much better…

InactiveYou may want to try the beechnut oatmeal as it is 100% soy free… Most MSPI babies on here tend to do well with it. Thanks for sharing… you may want to try beechnut baby foods as well to see if she tolerates those better.

InactiveThanks- that is good to know. At this point– I am staying away from all baby food. It is a lot more work but at least I know if I make the food myself then there is no milk, soy or crazy additives. After all this, I am just so happy she is starting to feel better.

InactiveEarth’s Best Organic foods also worked very well for us. I agree that making the baby food is your best/safest bet… but if you’re in a pinch the Beechnut (we used that too) & Earth’s Best were both ‘safe’ for my VERY sensitive little guy.
On that note, http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com is an awesome website & resource for homemade baby food!
ETA: seriously, why aren’t my links working?! Laura-thanks for fixing it in my other posts but what am I doing wrong?!
can you see this icon?
this is what’s making your links not link– I only see it (the icon) when I go back in and edit, so click edit and see if you see it?

InactiveHow can Gerber get away with not putting that information on the label?

KeymasterWith Jonah, I made all home made babyfood. It was nice bcse I was friends w/ 2 other mamas (we met in ‘mama-baby class’) and we’d make a batch of one food and then swap w/ one another. The foods we did were: sweet potatoes, apples, zuccini, ‘other’ squashes, peas, broccoli…for the peas we found using frozen organic worked best and I think for the broccoli, too…we used gladware little containers (4oz) and froze them to keep them good for a while…
Erin: not sure why they’re not working- I went back in & did the old-fashioned [ url = then put the web address] put web address AGAIN [ /url]
all of this w/o any spaces!
I’ve been having trouble, too, but ‘my’ trouble comes when trying to copy & paste from my MS Word document into here- I’ve switched to Mozilla Firefox…September 27, 2009 at 3:49 pm #64079Anonymous
Inactivei used to have one of those little baby food grinders so that i could just grind up what ever we were eating and feed it to my kids. more flavor that way—-and then you know exactly what is in it.
i’ve even made my own cereal before. i think i would grind whatever grain i wanted to use in the blender. it was about 1 TBSP to 1/3 cup boiling water—stirred in slowly.September 28, 2009 at 11:21 pm #64104Anonymous

InactiveWe had to switch to beechnut oatmeal with our son and once we were on that for about 2 weeks, we had no problems. We’ve just started solids last week, and our doctor recommended sticking with the beechnut brand. He seemed to do well with greenbeans. He’s been spitting a lot with sweet potatoes and carrots though. I am not sure if it is the food or there is something else going on. I don’t see any other symptoms other than a lot of spitting up.
