InactiveHello All:
So, my saga continues. We took my DD (11 weeks old this Thrus) to yet another specialist who took all of her history and looked at her. She isn’t gaining the weight she should be and is really tiny. So he wanted her admitted to the hospital to run tests. Gave us a new dose of previcid, liquid form 2ml once a day, and told us to add rice to the formula. We checked into the hospital on Friday afternoon and were release Monday night. They did all kinds of blood tests and GI was supposed to look at her on Monday. I was under the impression from my peditrician that she was going to be scoped on Monday. While at the hospital she kept her food down and made a decent weight jump. Well, Monday, GI showed up in the late afternoon. It wasn’t even the specialist we saw, a member of his team, and they were like, she doesn’t need a scope, you are free to go.Well, now we are home and she has been spitting up her food more than at the hospital (of course). We have a weight check with the doctor tomorrow, but I am just freaking out that she isn’t gaining the proper amount of weight. She is really skinny and just doesn’t seem right. I am beside myself, trying to get a hold of the specialist to find out why she wasn’t scoped and wondering if I get yet another opnion. I am scared, and not sure what to do. Anyone have any advice or has been in a similar situation with weight gain issues? TIA!

Keymasterwhere do you live? I would check out the ‘finding a ped GI’ posts and also I would contact marci-kids directly to see if they are affiliated w/ anyone near you.
hang in there!
i also would demand some carafate in the meantime, this will help soothe irritated esophogus- it’s a SHORT TERM solution, but it sounds like it’s in orderas for everything: FAX THE DOCTOR and at this point do not ASK, but TELL.
do you have any zantac? if not, get a prescription for this, too! we can help you figure out the PROPER dose and you can give this along w/ the prevacid, just making sure to space it 4hrs seperate. we’ll also help you space the prevacid, carafate, zantac, etc.as for the prevacid: FORGET the liquid. just TELL that you want the solutabs. these need to be given on an empty stomach, followed by a ‘meal’ 30 minutes later. again, we can help you w/ the timing.
FAX FAX FAX and then call to say fax was sent. then CALL again to discuss WHEN you can get the meds from pharmacy, etc. Provide pharmacy info in fax, too, etc.

InactiveWas she on an IV in the hospital? IV fluids could cause a jump in weight.
How did her weight check at the doctor go?
Is her problem that she doesn’t eat enough, or that she spits up her feedings, or both?
I agree with Laura about the Prevacid solutabs. They helped my son tremendously. The liquid form of Prevacid is not as useful as it is often compounded improperly.
Good luck and hang in there. Reflux is miserable, but there is help out there and it does pass with time.

InactiveHi Laura! My emoticons don’t work so I can’t wave or smile for you, but I’m smiling in real life!
