InactiveHello mammas! Thank GOD I stumbled across this forum. The stress and anxiety of having a baby that is not well can be overwhelming at times….
Lauren’s story…born healthy 7lb,8oz on 6/20/09. Diagnosed w/reflux on 10/7/09 (nearly 16 weeks old). Prior to being diagnosed w/reflux she was on zantac for one month, but we saw no change in her behavior. After seeing specialist 12 days ago he diagnosed her w/reflux. Left her on zantac (.7ml 3x’s day) and added Reglan (1.0ml 4x’s day). Her behavior seemed to change immediately…she was happy, no crying, no spit up, etc. Then, her symptoms started to reoccur this past Saturday and now, here we are again…crying, spit up, etc. She seems to be really gassy and her burps sound ‘wet’. I’ve put a call into the doctor to see if maybe we need to up her dosage but it just seems really soon to me that we would need to change dosage. She’s only been on meds 12 days. ??
Weight information:
Birth – 7lb 8oz
10/2 – 11lb 11oz
10/7 – 11lb 14 oz
10/12 – 12lb 2ozAny information/advice at all would be greatly appreciated…
Just want my baby to be healthy and happy…..
~ terraOctober 19, 2009 at 3:49 pm #64309Inactivecould be the dosage or type of medicine. but could it also be a milk allergy? does she have any kind of rash? milk allergy symptoms can often mirror reflux and reflux can be the result of an allergy. I am in the same situation it is so frustrating….
October 19, 2009 at 7:41 pm #64312InactiveHello! I am sorry you are struggling with this. Reflux is definitely no fun. My thought is that she needs something stronger than zantac and reglan. Have you considered a PPI like prevacid solutabs? I would research http://www.marci-kids.com and look into the different types of reflux medicine, proper ways to have them prepared and the correct dosage for weight/age. Good luck to you! start there to see if what proper PPI dose you will be wanting to request (not ask!) from the dr…then,

the majority of drs & pharmacists don’t know…babies metabolisms’ are much
faster than adults, so the drugs work differently with them…after

I took Lauren into the doctor yesterday and she has an ear infection. Which came as a surprise because there was no temp. Apparently an ear infection can cause a major flare up in reflux (little did i know). Also, she now weighs 12 pounds 10 ounces! YEA! So, her reflux meds obviously need to be adjusted…October 21, 2009 at 3:34 pm #64334InactiveMy daughter is on Zantac and Reglan. Could someone please provide insight as to why our doctor would place her on these two drugs rather than a PPI……and does anyone have information on Reglan they’d like to share. I know it is controversial but our doctor assured us, it is safe, as long as she shows no signs of an allergic reaction.
