InactiveI know the compound prevacid usually doesn’t work for most. But, we’re giving it a try just because my pedi isn’t too aware of the other forms. If we don’t have improvement with this I’m making an appt. with a GI. We started last Tuesday and at first had a really hard time giving it 30 min. before eating. Since Thursday, I made sure he got it at least 30 min. before a bottle. On Saturday and Sunday he was like a new baby! He didn’t fight his sleep at all and was so calm and enjoyable!
This morning my husband gave him his meds and as soon as he sat him up he spit it all up. Today he is back to his ‘old’ self with short naps and fighting sleep. I SO wanted to give him some more since he spit it all out but I didn’t want to risk it. Do you think his good two days were really from the prevacid actually working and today is bad because he spit his dose up? I’m really hoping so! I also thought maybe he was just sleeping well because of a growth spurt, but even during a growth spurt I would think he would still be uncomfortable from the reflux. I’m anxious to give him his dose tonight and tomorrow and hopefully we’ll see improvement again!November 16, 2009 at 7:25 pm #64571hellbennt
Keymasteryou don’t have to time a compounded PPI (prlosec, prevacid, nexium, protonix)- you can give it at any time.
you can give prilosec or prevacid that is mixed w/ Bufferbabies, bcse in essence you are making your ‘own’ compound
you do not have to time zegerid bcse in essence this is a compound, too, made w/ prilosecif the compound is made correctly, it should last 2 weeks.
usually to see the results of starting a PPI (any ‘form’ given ‘correctly’) it takes a good week or so- even up to 14 days. so, I don’t know how long your baby was taking the PPI before you (think you) saw good results…
if your baby spits up an entire dose, you can give another one, especially if s/he spits it up right away.

InactiveThank you. I wonder why he’s doing better since we’ve been waiting to feed him then? He did really well again this morning but it almost seems as though it wears off by the afternoon. He gets 2MLs in the morning and 2MLs at night. It is a 3MG/ML suspension. I tried to figure out what his dosage should be from the Marci website but I couldn’t figure it out. He is 3 months and about 14.5 lbs. Maybe he needs a higher dose?

InactiveSomeone (Laura?!) double check me… BUT looks to me like he’s getting 6mg in a.m. & 6 mg in p.m. – so, 12 mg/day.
According to marci-kids’ dosage calculator (I copied & pasted directly from the site):
Your child, who is 3 months old and weighs 6.6 kg, should receive a dose of 8 to 10 mg of Prevacid delivered 3 times per day for a total of 24 to 30 mg per day.
Hope that helps!erinntx2009-11-17 19:54:55

InactiveOk, thanks! I guess I was confused when trying to figure out the dosage calculator because they were listed as capsules, powder, or solutabs. But, now I realize that it would be the same dose anyway. Looks like he could use an increase! Thanks!
