InactiveI’ve pretty much decided the solutabs are part of my little guy’s problem. There’s not much else it COULD be.. We take our ds to the GI next week and was originally going to request a switch to either Nexium or Zegerid at that point. But, he just seems to be getting worse again, and I want to help him now if I can. I’m hoping someone can help me out here.
I think I have a few options here:1) leave him on the solutabs until next Friday when we go to the GI and request a switch to Zegerid or Nexium2) switch him to Prevacid OTC tomorrow w/ apple sauce (I have a buffer babies kit, but requested Prilosec rather than Prevacid) and request a new BB kit for Prevacid3) switch him to Prilosec w/ Buffer BabiesI kind of don’t want to switch meds altogether until I go see the doc, and I’d like to go the most insurance-covering route. I’m leaning toward either 1 or 2. If I went with #1, I’d go to the doc & request an equivalent marci-kids dose of Nexium or Zegerid. (although I can’t find a Nexium dosing on the marci-kids site…) If #2 works, I can ask the doc to prescribe the Prevacid capsules, right? Then at least the Prevacid would be covered by insurance (most likely) and we’d just purchase the BB on our own.Any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!January 7, 2010 at 10:25 pm #65405Anonymous
Inactivethis is a tough one. I think if it were me, I would go with option 2 as if I thought it was the solutabs, the quicker I got them out of his system the better I would feel. That way, you are keeping him on “prevacid” until you see the doc and then you could figure out something that will be covered……
I hope others have better information……January 8, 2010 at 8:08 am #65407Anonymous
InactiveOH, but I meant to say don’t order teh BB kit, I would do it in applesauce for now until you know if it will be successful…..

KeymasterI also vote for staying w/ prevacid and trying it with apple sauce…

InactiveAre you sure the Buffer Babies kit is different for Prevacid than for Prilosec?
January 8, 2010 at 10:03 pm #65415Anonymous
InactiveThe kits are the same, it’s just that the mixing is different. Some meds require 17 pills, others require 18. Some pills just need to be cut in half and some pills need to be grinded.

InactiveDenise, I’m kind of a rebel, lol, so I would do #3. Well, actually, I would first call the GI and see if they are open to Zegerid or Nexium. If it’s out of the question, then I would do #3. B/C really why keep him on Prevacid another week if that is what the problem is. You ARE doing everything else right, so what else could it be, KWIM? As for #2, I think if the solutab is truly bothering him, than his system might be sensitive enough to where a tiny bit of applesauce would bother him.
If your GI does consider Zegerid, I’d go ahead and make up your BB kit w/ Prilosec and use it til next Friday b/c Zegerid IS Prilosec. This could totally mess everything up, but it is what I would do.

InactiveSince the kit is the same I would get the prevacid capsules OTC and mix it with the bufferbabies. My son was on the Solutabs and things were very very bad. We were in an out of the ER for fluids all the time, he would only drink in his sleep, would scream so much when he saw a bottle that he would throw up and do anything he could to get away from me, had one red raw throat after another, endless doctor visits….I could go on and on. He dropped from the 97th percentile in weight to 6%. This went on till he was 13 months old. He was 2% points away from a feeding tube. I was half out of my mind. Enough was enough. I got my hands on the Prevacid capusules and got the Caracream from the Marci Kids/Reflux Solutions lab and a week later I had a new child on my hands. I got a new ped while I was at it. In 5 weeks his weight jumped up to the 50th percentile. It was unreal. I have never looked back. He is still on it at 19 months, eats like a pig, drinks well and is so healthy now. Hard to believe it is the same child. I owe David and Jeff at Reflux Solutions my sanity and my son’s life. My new ped was blown away by him improvement. (She is an ER doc so she treated him at his worst) She had no problem prescribing the capsules for him and totally supports my using the Caracream with him. I can tell you how to mix it with Prevacid capsules if you want. Just let me know

Keymasterok then I vote for prevacid or prilosec and bufferbabies- good point about the applesauce!
not sure which ppi to go for? i’m tempted to say prevacid and think that the issue was the solutabs in general, not the prevacid…maybe give the prevacid and bffrbabies 2 weeks and if that doesn’t ‘do’ it then try prilosec and bufferbabies…
