InactiveSeveral people with allergic infants have suggested Baby’s Jarro-Dophilus. I ordered some off the internet and was very excited to try it to see if it helped runny/mucusy stool issues.
I just received it and the label says: contains Dairy, soy and fish
Have your allergic babies done OK with this?
Thanks,
Kara

Keymasterhmm…
first of all, the kind I buy is in the refridgerated section of the health food super market…was this sent packed in dry ice or something?
maybe it’s another ‘variety’ they have? I don’t recall those ingredients…
I hope others chime in!

InactiveI know that some people in the past have posted that they found a form of acidophilus (sp?) that was dairy and soy free. Of course, I can’t remember what it was called. I think that maybe Stacey (debit34) found one, so hopefully she’ll post the name. Allergy concerns are exactly why I haven’t tried any probiotics yet even though I think that they may be helpful.

Inactivei just went to the local mom and pop HFS and looked at what they had. the one i bought is by NOW and is free of dairy, lactose, soy, egg and so and and so on.
my little guy was gluten free, casein free, egg free and milk free when i bought it. it is 8 billion bifidus and acidophilus. when he was about 8 months old i used to put half a capsule in his baby food.
now i do practically a whole capsule in his applesauce. i have seen improvements with his poops and his digestion in general.

InactiveNope, no dry ice. It is the same label as the link I got off this site though. I couldn’t find it at the local healthfood store.

InactiveWe use Baby Jarodophilus and it says on the container hypoallergenic
and non dairy. Like Laura said, we bought it from the refrigerated
section of our local organic market.April 22, 2006 at 10:44 am #6571Anonymous
InactiveOK- I’m trying to figure this out. Is it possible that there are two products with a very similar name? I did a search here and the links kept leading me back to what I have but several people mentioned Dairy Free although several posts pointed out that Dairy free could still have casein. What I have says it is vegetarian. As I mentioned previously it says in small print on the label “Contains: Dairy (casein), soy and fish (tuna/bonito).
Is the product you have been using put out by Jarrow Formulas, Los Angeles, CA 90035-4317 and can be found at http://www.Jarrow.com? or is this a different product than you are using?

InactiveOne more thought-Jarrow puts out a product called Jarro-Dophilus EPS that says it is Dairy Free. Is this what people are using?

InactiveMine is by Jarrow Formulas and says Baby’s Jarro-Dophilus. 3 Billion
per gram, hypoallergenic, non-dairy. Does not say, even in small print,
anything about casein, soy or fish.April 22, 2006 at 3:59 pm #6577Anonymous
InactiveOkay, I haven’t looked at either bottle, so I could be totally off base, but based on our recent allergy struggles, I’m guessing that this could be the explanation for the differing labels. From my search to find milk-free cheese for Kaelyn, I’ve discovered several brands that claim to be “vegan” and a couple that even say dairy free, yet the label says that they contain casein or skim milk proteins. I did some research and found that a product could have a small percentage of dairy product (I can’t remember how much), and still be considered dairy-free or vegan. However, the new labelling law that went into effect on Jan. 1st forces manufacturers to clearly label if a product has any of the “big 8” allergens. So, I’m guessing that those of you with bottles that say dairy free have bottles that were labelled before Jan 1st and Kara’s bottle was labelled after Jan 1st, so it clearly marks the fact that it contains milk. Again, I’m guessing, so I could be totally wrong.

InactiveInteresting, Kim. So if that is the case and if Marisa has been on the
Jarodophilus for almost 2 months now with no problems that I can tell –
does that likely mean that dairy is/will be OK? Of course she’s also
been on Alimentum for 2.5 months now (after 4 months on Necoate) so
maybe she’s outgrowing her intolerance?April 22, 2006 at 6:52 pm #6586Anonymous
InactiveI think that must be it!
So does that mean these allergic little ones that have been using this have done OK on it? (maybe because of such small amounts of the allergens?). Has anyone here had a child react to it?
I found an explanation of the refridgeration issue too. The company says that it should be stable at room temperature but you may want to refridgerate it as an added precaution. I’m betting they don’t ship any of it by refridgerated means but that stores put it in the fridge when they get it.
Thanks for all of your input!

InactiveKaren ~ I would definitely say that Marissa is outgrowing her intolerance if she’s been on Alimentum for 2 months now. It may be that you have to stick with that for quite some time but I think it means that she will be able to tolerate milk at some point. Hailey’s intolerance was gone by 18 months.
Kara ~ There are several threads where people have listed their favorite allergen free probiotics. I’ll go do some searching and see if I can come up with anything. The one I eventually used was from Walgreen’s and I really liked it. It was in capsule form and was completely allergen free (well according to the old labeling anyway). I can’t remember the name of it though!

InactiveThanks Stacey! I hope/think you’re right about the intolerance.
I am really uncomfortable that the Jarodophilus has these ingredients
though. The casein doesn’t really bother me since that’s in Alimentum
too, but the fish issue seems odd to me. I may look for Udo’s Choice
Infant Blend – have heard really good things about that and the new
label still seems hypoallergenic. Thanks for bringing this up, Kara.
