InactiveMy 4 mth old baby eats 1-2 oz. and then fusses and squirms and pushes the bottle away. He eats fine at night when he’s sleeping, but during the day it takes 45 min. to try and get 4 oz. in him. He is on 15mg of Prevacid. I think we’ve tried every formula there is also. He’s been to a GI specialist and he prescribed him Carafate to coat the lining of his esophagus, but he’s been on it for over a week and I’ve seen no improvement. Has anyone else experienced the same thing. I’m so frustrated!!!

InactiveWe went through the same thing. But ours was a bit worse, it could take hours to get 1-2 ounces in, and 3-4 was rare. Unless it’s an intolerance it’s not likely the formula, but you may want to try alimentum or neocate if you haven’t already. My guess is that 15mg of prevacid isn’t enough. I’d try to get more if you can. Other possibility is that prevacid solutab needs to be given on an empty stomach and then followe up with meal 30-60 minutes later. It is frustrating.

InactiveWe’ve tried the alimentum and it didn’t help 🙁 I give him the Prevacid 3 hs. after his feeding and an hour before his next. I’m so frustrated- how long did it last for you? Yesterday he barely ate anything and today he’s only eated 2 oz. in the past 10 hrs. I feel like he’s just getting worse!

InactiveMy guess is that his dose is too low. I’d try for a higher dose. If that doesn’t work after a month, then maybe neocate? It lasted too long for us, until she outgrew it. But there were others in the same position whose babies got better much faster.

InactiveI am in the same boat, trying to figure out how long this will last. Things were going better but it seems lately that the prevacid is not working as well anymore. Hang in there as everyone has told me on this blog it will get better. The main thing I have learned so far to not force her to eat (feedings do not last more then 30 min) and to limit night feedings so that she is hungry during the day. But right now she is not eating well as someting as it seems that bothering her during the feedings. We have an appointment with a ped GI on Tuesday to figure out the next steps.
