InactiveConnor has been struggling with reflux since probably his first week here:(
We tried zantac and it didn’t help any! So they went to prevacid 15mg
solutabs. And it worked for a while (meaning maybe 2 weeks) and then it
seemed like it would wear off in the afternoon. So they changed his
formula (he was one of those babies that just wouldn’t bf) to pretty
much everything they make and eventually went back to Enfamil
Gentlease. I’ve asked his pedi about upping his prevacid to 15mg twice
a day but they would rather split the 15 into 2 doses and add in
zantac. This has made him tons worse! He was sleeping 8 hours a night
and since they made the change he’s woken up every 2 hours and stayed
awake an hour each time. Has anyone else tried their baby on 30mgs of
prevacid at such an early age? I should also mention that he’s 15lbs
now since they had me adding so much rice cereal to his formula at one
point!February 21, 2010 at 4:34 pm #65860Anonymous
InactiveMany people on this site have! Sometimes it’s hard to find a doc that will do that.

key to all of this is RESEARCH and, of course, support!http://www.marci-kids.com is at the FOREFRONT
of research of PPI use and dosing in infants/todders. You might want to
start there to see if PPI dose is ‘proper’then,
hop back here to learn HOW to get that proper dose, if need be, and what FORM of PPI and HOW to administer…Prevacid

the majority of drs & pharmacists don’t know…babies metabolisms’ are much

InactiveMy 2nd ds was on 22.5mg @ 5 wks old (10lbs) & then 30mg by 8 wks old (12lbs).
I had the best luck (@ that time) faxing my general ped. Now (since we’ve developed a ‘special’ -lol relationship w/ him) I can discuss & get the dose upped @ the appt but initially, faxing worked MUCH better. I faxed all the physician info (on the left hand side) from marci-kids (like Laura suggests I think).
Hang in there…

That is so true… Our ped. is not comfortable upping the dose to 30mg a day for my 10 month old, so we are on 7.5 mg twice a day and Zantac at lunchtime. It is hard to tell if the zantac is helping at all, but we’ll see. -
