InactiveMy 10 week old was diagnosed with reflux recently and was just put on Zantac. She is also on Similac Senistive RS formula. She was 13 lbs 6 oz at 8 1/2 weeks. The dr. told me to give her .8ml twice a day. After reading through some other posts, it seems kind of low. SOme feedings she is ok and others she cries and cries and yet is so hungry. When should I be giving the two doses? We were doing 7 am when she first wakes up adn 7 pm before bed but I’m not sure that is working. Any suggestions or advice?? Thanks!

InactiveThanks! I am not sure how much she weighs now but I would guess almost 14 lbs. She was 13 lbs 6 ounces at 8 1/2 weeks and is now 10 weeks and 2 days.

InactiveIf she seems hungry but yet cries & refuses to eat I would guess she’s still in a lot of pain & maybe consider looking into a PPI. Check out
http://www.marci-kids.com for more info. Maybe put her on the higher dose of Zantac & then if you don’t see relief in the 1st few days then request a PPI.
Hang in there!

Keymasterok I’ll caculate for 14lbs
first I need to figure out her weight in kilos, so I divide 14 by 2.2 = 6.4
ok so your baby weighs 6.4 kilos
maximum dose for zantac is 10mgs of zantac for every kilo of weight, so I
then multiply 6.4 x 10= 64
that’s 64mgs of zantac for the day
now, your bottle of zantac is liquid and is in MLs, not Mgs, so you’re thinking, “now what?”
so, take a look at your bottle of zantac and it says on it:
15mgs/ml
this means that for every 1 ml of liquid you give her, there is 15mgs of zantac in that 1ml
so that would mean if you gave her 2mls of the liquid zantac, she’d be getting 30mgs of zantac.
following me?
ok so she can have 64mgs a day of zantac, so I take that 64 and divide by 15 and get = 4.3
that’s 4.3mls a day, total, of zantac she can have
what you do next is give that amount in two doses- the doses can be uneven, meaning if night time is worse (usually is, but not always), then you could give 1ml in the morning and 3.3mls in the evening
or 1.3mls in the morning and 3mls in the evening
and so on
you can ‘play’ with the doses…
don’t just take my word on this!

InactiveThanks for figuring it out for me. I am going to call the dr. and ask them if I can increase the dosage.

KeymasterI wouldn’t call and ASK, per se. please read the link
https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=8288&PN=1
as to the RATIONALE for your ped’s dosing vs. what I calculated for you.
go to the pharmacist and ask her/him to humour you (it’s all in the link above)- ask about looking up the dose on her/his ‘ipharmacist’- it’s all in the link above- then when you feel comfortable as to WHY baby needs higher dose, then TELL dr.
I would fax it…
