InactiveHello, my lo is now 15 weeks old and was put on omeprazole at 9 weeks old after no success with gaviscon, domperidone and zantac. She is also on nutramigen aa for suspected cows milk allergy.
After 3 weeks of using omeprazole – she is on 5mg (half a solu-tab) once a day we saw some improvement, she stopped screaming completely (including during feeds) and her back arching decreased. She was still having severe hiccups, crying constantly and very irritable so I saw ped on Tues and he decided to put her on 10mg (one whole solutab) once a day.Since the first increased dose she deteriorated rapidly, she started screaming again, had severe stomach cramps and passing excessive wind. Also had diarrhoea the same evening. After 2 days on increased dose I took it upon myself to reduce it back down as I was scared it was the omperazole causing it. Recently she has started to back arch a lot again and seems to geting more uncomfortable by the day. I’m back to having to constantly console her whereas last week she seemed much more content – played on her play mat for 1 whole hour and then fell asleep on it!I really don’t know what to do now, should I increase the dose again and see what happens or do I continue with the 5mg and cope as best I can. I know according to marci kids babies should be given ppi 3 x daily but my docs have never mentioned this – they are pretty ignorant when it comes to reflux though but also don’t seem open to suggestions. My darling little girl had such a good few days and was so happy but we’re back to square one now and it’s so soul destroying
what do I do? xApril 19, 2010 at 5:12 pm #66234hellbennt
Keymastertry 2 doses of 5mg, since she was fine w/ the 5mg at a time?
as for increasing her dose…we can’t tell you to do it on your own…
I would research all you can and the TELL your dr what it is that your little one needs…
