InactiveI am so LOST. I really feel like I just do not know what to do anymore. Thankfully our sweet boy is happy most of the day but he still has issues with his reflux. Although he is happier now than he use to be (I contribute this to his zantac/prilosec) we are still having major sleep issues, and of course the random choking.
Nights are so hard now he wakes almost every hour and some nights he will only sleep if I am holding him upright in the rocking chair. The minute I set him in his crib on his tummy he begins a cycle of thrashing around, rubbing his face, and passing gas until finally he wakes up crying. Naps are not much better during the day. The longest he will typically sleep is about 15 min. at a time, but at least he wakes up happily playing in his crib.
He is strictly breastfeed and is refusing solids as of a few days ago.(could this be that the prilosec has decreased his appetite?) I am currently on a milk/ soy free diet and he eats smaller meals every two- three hours. I have tried the TED and although it helped some I was never really ever able to single any one thing out, other than milk soy and sugars. I finally gave it up (after a month) for fear of losing my milk supply.
I just don’t know what to do anymore. He is almost 7 months old and I have considered a hypoallerginic formula as this would allow me to better control what is in his diet but I am not sure if this is the best move or even if he would accept the change. He has never been a big fan of bottles and just recently started to take one again with breast milk and only in small amounts if he is very hungry.
I have no clue what to do from here, and no one in my family understands just how much trouble he has with it. If I hear “just stick him in his crib and let him cry it out” one more time I am going to scream!
The poor little guy just wants to feel better, and we could all use some more sleep.June 25, 2010 at 4:33 pm #66550hellbennt
Keymasteris the prilosec dose a marci-kids dose?
is it in bufferbabies or zegerid?
if it’s a compound made by the pharmacy the next thing I’d do is get the prilosec in bufferbabies, at a PROPER dose per kilo.
in the meantime, I’d figure out zantac dose at 10mgs per kilo and give this, too, spacing it 4hrs from the prilosec, give it in two doses…June 25, 2010 at 5:22 pm #66553Anonymous
InactiveThis is all a little confusing for me. Lets see..
He is on 20 mgs of prilosec (he currently weighs 21 ibs) it is in capsule form. We mix it with applesauce in the morning he is taking .8 ml of Zantac 3 times a day.
So I should be giving his zantac twice not 3 times?
thank you for your response

Keymasteryou could/should give the prilosec two times a day, too, to see if it helps-
same w/ the zantac-
babies’ metabolisms are fast and, at least w/ the prilosec, they zip right through the medicine…21lbs = 9.5 kilos
and he’s just about 7 months old so 1mg per kg
so that’s 9.5mgs of prilosec three times a day, which = 28.5mgs of prilosec total for the day (you could give/divide up in/to two doses)
from marci-kids:Pediatric Dosing for Omeprazole (Zegerid®, Prilosec®, and generic form) and Esomeprazole (Nexium®)
Dosing dependent on age & weight
Age Dose per day (mg/kg/ dose) < 3 months 1.5 mg/kg three times per day 3-6 months 1.25 mg/kg three times per day 7 months to 2 years 1 mg/kg three times per day > 2 years 1 mg/kg two or three times per day > 5 years 0.75 mg/kg two times per day so zantac:
10mgs x 9.5 = 95mgs per day of zantac
your bottle will read 15mgs/ml
so for every 1ml of liquid, your baby is gettng 15mgs of zantac
to get 95 mgs a day, you divide the 95 by 15 = 6.3
that’s 6.3mls, total, of zantac for the day (this is a big increase from what you’ve been giving)
you divide that into two doses however you want- bigger one in the evening for sleeping…or bigger one before nap time….you can experimenthellbennt2010-06-25 17:48:24
