DS is on prevacid with buffer babies, I am off of dairy (except for a slip up twice (had some ranch on my burger and cheese on my favorite sandwich) SO now I am royally paying for it.

I just dont understand. He used to only pull off the breast once a day now the past 2 days he is doing it at every feeding while screaming and arching! Could he be that sensitive to dairy or is it something else. I asked my pedi to give me some more zantac (i am out of town and left it at home) and she said no since we just bumped up his prevacid dose.

I want to try the ted diet but now while I am out of town! I am just out of my mind! He was up every 30 minutes last night screaming! He can only be settled if he is being bounced! My arms are breaking!

I just dont know what else to do…maybe it is something else in my diet…

Just venting!

Hmmm… the times when my ds(s) pull/pulled off the breast is when they were/are in reflux pain. Still, when Tate is refluxing bad (we’re currently dealing w/ increase reflux pain big time) he refuses to nurse much of the day :(. In my experience, when they are having tummy/intestinal pain (ie: from something in my diet) it doesn’t affect nursing/feeding. How are his diapers currently? Normal? or mucousy… did they get this way before or after starting the Buffer Babies (I only ask b/c some dbs can’t tolerate BB).

I would probably do some shots (1mL) of Mylanta before feedings & see if this changes his behavior. If yes, then it’s definitely reflux pain.

I’m sorry little guy is in pain.

I’m also sorry as I do not have a breast so I cant share my experience however, Noah has been pulling away from the bottle more since we started prevacid this week.

It says milk free yet I think it does have casein in it so if extremely sensitive I wonder if that is a possible reason.

Prevacid solutabs have lactose (milk sugar) in them & both my sons cannont tolerate them @ an early age (Evan started to be able to do them around 9 mths old, Tate I haven’t tried again b/c he’s doing well w/ Zegerid). They also have artificial flavors & colors so that causes some babies problems too. No casein though.

So it is possible to be intolerant of that med due to the lactose sugar. interesting and thanks. u may have helped me too

My pleasure :). Fwiw though, most drs (ped GIs included) will think you’re crazy if you suggest they’re reacting to the lactose in them… but it’s definitely what caused my dss (they started pooping blood within 12 hrs of starting solutabs) to react as well as a good friend of mine’s dd (& I’m sure many others but these are just what I KNOW).

His poops seem to be normal bf poops. He also takes the prevacid capsules with the buffer babies. So I really dont know what is wrong with him. I think that he does have thrush so maybe that is why he is pulling of and on and is SOOOOO irritable.

He was up every hour on the hour last night and was so fussy. I am just confused…I dont know what to do.

I asked my ped to phone in more zantac and they said to wait another 2 days since we just up-ed his prevacid. But in all honesty I have been a terrible mom and have only been giving him the prevacid 1 per day. Yesterday he had it at lunch and had a great day but a horrible night. Today he is having a horrible day and hasn’t had the prevacid at all! I give up!

My family seems to think he is allergic to my breastmilk!

it’s pretty rare for a baby to be allergic to breastmilk, plus you’re already admitting that you’re not giving the meds quite as you should…

If it is your milk, it would be protein in the milk, such as milk proteins and/or soy proteins and not just “your milk”
