InactiveHello, all. I am new here. Thanks for all these great information you posted. Really learned a lot!
My daughter Joann is 4 months old today. She was born full term and was breastfed well until 2-month old when she started to turn her head away from the breast. I had to pump the milk and bottle feed then. Long story short, she ate little, although did not spit up as other reflux kids. She was diagnosed with Reflux by her pediatrician three weeks ago, tried Zantac but did not work, so the doc gave her Prevacid compounding solution last week(I know it doesn’t work well so I just sent my check to David to order bufferbaby and will mix myself).Last Saturday after three doses of Prevacid, Joann threw up everything she ate four times and refused to eat any more, so we sent her to the emergency for IV in case of dehydration. Doc was not sure what caused the vomitting but ask us to stop Prevacid for a few days and try again later. We tried Prevacid again yesterday, and after exactly 3 doses, she threw up again today. Is it possible that the vomitting is caused by Prevacid? Does anybody has the same experience with Prevacid? If yes, which other PPI works better? I called the pediatrician already and asked if she can prescribe another PPI and she is working on it.

Keymastercould be the prevacid solution you have from pharmacy.
I would maybe stick w/ prevacid and use it w/ the bufferbabies, like you said.in the meantime, you could ask for prevacid capsules.
then you open the capsules and give the beads inside. you must give on an empty stomach, followed by a ‘meal’ 30 minutes later. you also need to give the beads from the prevacid w/ a tsp of applesauce. yes your baby is young, but she can still get the medicine this way- use your finger to get the beads/applesauce into her or perhaps a little spoon and then wash down w/ water, using a syringe or bottle…so what is she taking now? pumped breastmilk? formula?

InactiveThank you so much Laura for your reply. She vomited in Friday morning but did not after that, so we continued to give her the compound solution and she seems fine with it now.
Now the problem is the solution seemed to help with her reflux on the weekend, but she did not feel comfortable again yesterday. We think probably it is because we’ve already had the solution for more than 10 days and it is degrading because of the added flavor. While waiting for my babybuffer, I am going to try giving her the beads with applesauce. One question though. the chart shows she needs to take 9mgx3 per day, but the capsule has 15mg in it, so is there anyway we can store the 6mg after giving 9mg in one capsule or we have to throw the 6mg away?
She is taking pumped breast milk, but we are thinking of introducing some formula. We tried Similac Alimentum, but she doesn’t like the taste. Do you know any formula taste like breast milk?
Thank you again!

KeymasterI don’t think there is a formula that tastes like breastmilk?
I’m not sure how you’re actually going to get the 9mgs from the capsule and the 6 left over? 9 x 3 = 27, so I would use two 15 mgs capsules and divide the beads into three doses thus giving 30mgs total, rather than 27mgs, bcse I don’t think the extra three mgs is that big a difference…but that is ME and I cannot tell you what to do…
