Sorry everyone, I haven’t formally introduced myself yet. My hands are quite full with a 9 week old baby girl with multiple issues (including GERD) and two boys ages 3/6. I hardley have time to go pee, let alone post online, LOL!

In any case, my little Gracie girl is on compounded Prilosec. From what I have read on here so far, it is VERY likely that her meds are not being made correctly and also, I believe her dose is too small.

In any case she is going to be out of her medication and the pharmacy is closed tomorrow, so I wont be able to get it until Monday. Then hopefully next week we can get back in to the Ped GI who will then adjust her dosage.

In the meantime, I wanted to buy some OTC Omeprazole to get us through the weekend…

I have read through posts and such, even visited the MARCI-kids website, and for the life of me, I just can’t process all of it yet. I’m sure it will begin to make sense soon enough, but for now… I’m lost.

So what I’m hoping is that I can get a little help figuring out what OTC version of the Omeprazole to buy, and then how much to give her and how to administer it…

She is about 9lbs (4.08 kg?) And just turned 2 months old (9 weeks).

Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks so much in advance!!

ok what you need to buy is a capsule, you know, the kind that you open up and there are little beads inside

what you do is give the beads on an empty stomach, follwed by ‘meal’ 30 minutes later. you give the beads in 1tsp of apple sauce. it’s do-able w/ a baby this young, others have done it. try putting the beads/apple sauce on your finger and washing down w/ a skinny syringe of water…

as for the dose:
9lbs = 4.1kgs (what you figured, but rounded up)

here’s the chart for prevacid (most of us went ‘from’ prilosec to prevacid or just started w/ prevacid, but I am not a doctor!)
so 1.5 x 4.1= 6.15
6.15 x 3 (this is the 3x a day part) = 18.45
I’d round it up to
18.5 mgs a day of prevacid, total for the day, for the minimum dose

1.75 x 4.1 = 7.175
7.175 x 3 = 21.525
I’d round up to 21.5 mgs total for the day, for maximum dose of prevacid

you could use 15mgs and then half of that to get to 22mgs…

< 3 months 1.5 to 1.75 mg/kg three times per day
