InactiveHello!
I am a first time mom of a 3.5month old son. About a month and half ago he was diagnosed based on symptoms with Reflux. He started on Gentlease and was started on Prilosec. He was doing great until last week when he began spitting up almost every bottle. He also started to get eczema and nasal stuffiness at the same time. They ruled out Pyloric Stenosis and told us to try Lipil AR or Soy Formula. He refused to eat the AR and he had an allergic reaction to soy. Now he is on Nutramigen and seems to be a bit better but is not eating as much as he used to. How long does it take for Nutramigen to have the full effect? Also why did his symptoms all the sudden get worse? I am so worried especially since he is now losing weight. He was growing at such a great rate until last week. Will this get any better? He goes back on Thursday for a weight check and if he still has not gained weight or has lost some more they will do an ultrasound. How do you get through the rough days?

KeymasterI have SO MUCH TO SAY, and most of it is here- please read the info from this link & refer back to it often, as it TRULY will help you!
https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=853it can take two weeks for the nutrimigen to show it’s true colors… in fact, every change you might make can take a good two weeks to see it’s full effect…have you researched prilosec/prevacid dosing at http://www.marci-kids.com ;they are from the University of Missouri- they are at the FOREFRONT of the research being done w/ PPIs and infants/toddlers.Also, please read Prevacid 101(has info about prilosec, too), last post on the page, to learn more about PPIs https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1936&PN=0&TPN=1I would also look at MSPI (milk/soy protein intolerance)-page two from this link gives a really good explanation of MSPI & it’s relation to reflux:October 26, 2010 at 12:08 pm #67219Anonymous

InactiveAww hang in there mama! From the symptoms (reflux, congestion and eczema) you’ve described your LO’s reaction to the soy formula it sounds like he could possibly have allergies to milk and soy proteins. If you feel like he has gotten worse on Nutramigen you may want to talk to your doctor about trying an elemental formula (like Neocate or Elecare). Elemental formulas don’t contain any milk proteins instead they are made up of individual amino acids (the building blocks of proteins). This makes them the easiest to formula for LOs to digest. Either way, it could take 2+ weeks to see a difference in you LO when switching formulas.

InactiveI am having the EXACT same issues with me 3 month old. She also was diagnosed early with reflux and has been on Enfamil AR but still spitting up constantly. And has recently also started with excema and congestion at the same time! And has started losing weight as well. I have not found any solutions yet… but glad to know that someone is in the same boat. and PLEASE let me know if you find anything that helps ur LO!!!

KeymasterKatie,
if you haven’t read Groupie intro
then it’s time to read/scroll/skim through it…there’s a link from the ‘main’ mspi page that explains MSPI and it’s relation to reflux…Sounds like your baby could use a try at an elemental formula, like neocate. Ask your dr for samples and then give it for two weeks. If it helps, then you can get a prescription…December 1, 2010 at 12:33 pm #67324Anonymous
InactiveThanks for all the helpful info laura! There is just so much to consider and different diagnosis. I am very overwhelmed with all this information. It also doesn’t help that we can only change one thing at a time to see what works best for her…everyday that goes by that she is not better just makes me feel as if it was a waste of time!

Keymasterthe excema & congestion lead me to think about mspi –
there’s a link from groupie intro…go to the ‘main’ mspi page and from there there’s a link that explains the relationship b/t reflux and mspi…December 3, 2010 at 7:31 pm #67336Anonymous
