InactiveHi,
My baby boy is 7 weeks old and was diagnosed with acid reflux about a month ago. We tried Zantac for a couple weeks but it didn’t seem to work and my son hated it! He spit it out most of the time.
We just started Prevacid 4 days ago. I don’t really see a change yet, but I have heard that it can take some time.
In the meantime- my son wakes up every hour or so during the night and he seems like he wants to eat (he moves his mouth like he is doing the rooting reflex). I’ve tried just giving him a pacifier, but he spits it right out. He seems happy when I start to feed him (bottles of breastmilk). He will usually only take about 1 oz and then fall asleep. (During the day he will take anywhere from 2-5 oz) Then he will wake up again soon after looking for more food.
We have tried several things to help stop the spit up/pain- sleeping in car seat, propped up in crib, and we even tried just keeping him flat on his back.
Does this sound familiar to anyone?? I can’t imagine continuing this night feeding schedule much longer! I’m starting to lose it!
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Keymasterwelcome! I have a LOT to say, & most of it is here, in a link called Groupie Introthis is looong, but please read/scroll/skim through it and refer back to it often, as it TRULY will help you
.there is info about WHY a baby might get reflux, about reflux and how it might be related to diet/allergies/intolerances (these are to PROTEINS in breastmilk or formula, proteins such as milk and/or soy)…there is a link to finding a ped GIthere is a link called ‘Prevacid 101’ – read this as it tells about zantac dosing, too and also prilosec…basically, there is a LOT of info to help you & we’re here, too!hang in there & so glad you found us!(this is in Groupie 101): YES! keep the baby on zantac, too, making sure to seperate the dose by 4hrs from the prilosec/prevacid! do this for a good two weeks, as this is how long it can take for you to see the results of the Prevacid IF if if the prilosec/prevacid is the proper dose & form!make sure to read Prevacid 101 (this includes prilosec info too & also refers to) &so glad you found us!~laurahellbennt2010-11-23 17:34:04
