Hi Ladies!
Anyone have experience with this? Our 4 month old daughter is doing terribly on neocate. We are nearing her second week and she is still not sleeping and is SUPER bloated. She’s also hyper and irritable in a very strange way! I’m not sure who to turn to, doctor wise, to see if this is suitable. It sounds CRAZY to feed this to an infant – but she is not thriving on anything commercial that we’ve given her. What would you do? Does this seem unfit?

It still has whey and lactose in it – however I guess it’s the casein that most react to.

I would keep w/ the neocate and try prevacid in another form. She may be reacting to something in the solutabs like aspertame or any of the other ingredients like flavorings, etc.I would see about bufferbabies or even just plain ‘ole prevacid capsules- you give the beads on an empty stomach, administer the beads w/ a tsp of applesauce and then follow w/ a ‘meal’ 30 minutes later.February 16, 2011 at 1:24 pm #67827AnonymousInactiveLaura,
Yeah, I was wondering that too. Although she was on prevacid before all of this neocate stuff…but maybe it’s the combo or something.
I was googling buffer babies the other day and just may give that a try for Callie.
For sure – empty stomach 30 min before a full bottle (ha – her ‘full bottles are only 3-4 ounces, still! Lots of feeds in a 24 hour period:)).

Callie’s GI appointment is in two days. I’m so tempted to take her off prevacid and just give her zantac for a couple of days just to see if her moaning stops between now and then. Should I? Or wait and ask? Your thought of trying in another form is a good one. All along I’ve though, “Nah, she wouldn’t react to such a small amount of lactose/aspartame”…but…she is so sensitive to everything it seems!
Her tummy is so sour. It is just such a mystery right now and I’m trying to be a detective in figuring out what is causing her belly to be upset.
I tried mylanta and it hasn’t helped:(
Thoughts!?
February 22, 2011 at 7:11 pm #67901hellbenntKeymasterI wouldn’t stop the prevacid. but I might go buy some capsules & see if the moaning stops…
I really have a feeling about the aspertame- especially since others have posted over the years that their babies had odd ‘behaviors’ from the solutabs…March 2, 2011 at 7:51 am #67958AnonymousInactiveHey Laura,
Well – she has been on the capsules for two days now and no change. It’s gotta be the neocate.
I’ve been crying for 5 months and I’m so sick of this! I don’t know what to do. I’m calling the GI this morning. We have a breast milk bank – very stringent – and they have dairy/soy free milk available. The only way we could do it is if insurance would cover. A long shot – but I just don’t know how to help Callie anymore. With her neutropenia and various other medical issues – we might have a chance. This poor baby needs something real in her system IMHO.
