InactiveHi Ladies, I’m new here. I’m from a small community in Nova Scotia. I’m a mom of 4 who have all had reflux issues. Baby #4 is five months old and causing me a lot of agony. I am getting no where with any drs (our GP, a pediatrician and the ER at the nearest children’s hospital). The consensus at this point amongst everyone except me and my family is that I’m stressed and tired and I just need to “get over it” and deal with her “difficult personality”. Anabelle (my little one) is on 15mg Prevacid solutab daily to deal with the reflux. I do everything I did with my other children to help manage the symptoms as well. However, Anabelle continues to have crazy excema that has even gotten infected and required antibiotics, redness and oozing in the folds of her crotch, redness around her rectum, explosive gas, unformed stools full of mucous and strange colors, fussiness and constant spitting up. My stress and fatique CAN NOT cause this.
I have been pushing these issues with the drs we’ve seen, hoping to get a stool test for allergies. I take pictures of her stool with me, but no doctor has ever wanted to look at them. At one point the pedi suggested the possibility of MSPI and told us to switch cold turkey to Alimentum (from GoodStart). After four days of reflux flare-up, diaherrea, and crying I called the pedi’s office to ask for advice. He had the receptionist call me back to tell me “put her back on GoodStart and there are lots of formula’s out there and you just never know which one will work for any given baby.”Now at five mos. No one wants to help anymore. I’m told that she is gaining weight and seems healthy despite the symptoms I’ve listed above. I however, don’t want to give up on having a happy healthy baby and my life back. (I should mention that I have not slept a night in my bed since I went to the hospital to give birth.) I can’t take her anywhere other then doctors apts as I just never know when she will take a gas fit and I hate her spitting up over herself, me, others etc. Most people just don’t understand this. So, I’ve been trying different formulas on my own introducing them gradually rather then cold turkey like the dr suggested with the Alimentum. Currently I have he switched to 100% Similac Sensitive as I wondered if this was Lactose Intolerance. Well, she continues to have mucous in her poops (which remain loose) and she is spitting up a lot and always has gas. I’m debating another switch to soy based Isomil as I’ve heard good things about it.Any suggestions or advice you moms could offer would be greatly appreciated. I trust your experience more then I do the drs’ right now and I am on my own to try to help her. I need something soon before she falls behind developmentally as well.THANK YOU SO MUCH! I look forward to more converstion.April 7, 2011 at 12:31 pm #68110Anonymous
InactiveOh how my heart goes out to you! Four babies with reflux?!! I have two boys and both of them have had reflux, with my younger son having it the worst. I lived on this forum the first year of Jordan’s life (back in ’03-’04)!! Both of my boys ended up on Nutramigen – and Jordan had a lot of eczema, too. Poor babies, not only do they hurt from the reflux, but then they are itching to death with eczema. Looking back, I really think Jordan should have been put on Neocate or Elecare… the expensive formulas that are the most hypoallergenic.
I also wanted to add that both of my boys walked later at 14 & 15 months. They were fine mentally, but not having proper tummy time, etc. – and spending so much time propped up, that did delay some motor skills. They are both healthy today and very bright. So, if the baby falls behind some on motor skills, do not worry yourself sick. She will catch up!I really feel for you… Jordan never slept after I brought him home from the hospital, he just cried and cried in pain. It was so emotionally difficult. I know it’s hard, but remind yourself this wont’ last forever… and it truly won’t!I wish I had more help… all I know to tell you is to trust those mommy instincts and keep pushing until she gets relief!!! Best wishes!Oh, one last thing… I ordered and used the Tucker Sling for Jordan and that really seemed to help us at night time. I learned about the sling on this group. I hope they still make it.Michelle2011-04-07 12:32:34
