InactiveHas any one used Axid? My son went from Zantac, maxed out with dosage, tried Prevacid…a nightmare. He was sleeping through the night and all of a sudden started waking up, and has bad gas pains since Prevacid and now we are trying Axid until we get to the GI specialist. I would like any info you could share.

InactiveBoth my sons are on both Axid and Prevacid. We were having some serious gas issues but we found that was because of the formula. We have since went to alimentum RTF. Even the powder was causing alot of gas issues. Since we went to the RTF it has been bliss (at least were gas is a concern). The axid and prevacid are helping them at least to the point of them eating again. They are still refluxing alot but not causing alot of pain like they had with the zantac. They go to the GI tomorrow and I am going to see if they can up thier meds (not on maxed out dose yet, I think on lower ends of both). But since the switch to axid from zantac, it has been MUCH better. They don’t even mind taking it (bubble gum flavor) Woo hoo!

InactiveWe have been on the alimentum since one month old and he has never had gas pains until we started the prevacid. I am hoping that the GI specialist can come up with another PPI drug like Zegerid. I have read alot about that drug in this forum and it seems like the best out there. Thanks again for the information.

InactiveIf you switch to zegerid, i found that it took effect relatively quick, like around day #4. There is a $30 coupon for it now too. Our insurance co. doesn’t cover it now, so back to prevacid. My dd had gas pains on the solutabs, but is alright with the prevacid capsules givin in a tbs of applesuace. I think she had a little trouble at first, but everything subsided at around the 2 week mark. Axid never really did anything for dd, I am not sure what category it walls into, think it is a h2 blocker. You may find more info at marci-kids.com. They have valuable info there and you can email them if you have any questions.

InactiveWe had our 4 month check up today and I talked to our ped. about the Zegerid. She had no idea what it was and so she is sending me to a GI specialist. She just prescribed the Axid I think as a way out until I get to the specialist. I am going to print off information from the marci-kids website and take it to the GI specialist. I hope that he has heard of it so that we can go with that. I have read alot of great things about it in this forum. If you do not mind me asking, how much does the Zegerid cost?

Inactivehi
my son was 1 mo. when he was first prescribed zantac – he hated it and would refuse to drink or throw up from it. the axid has worked better (bubble gum) but not strong enough. as i understand it it is like taking a tums – it will work on the acid in the stomach – prevacid will stop the acid from pumping. at least that was how the phamacist put it. you should see some relief if the dosage is high enough. we went through 4 changes and he is currently on .8ml of axid with 15 mg of prevacid packets. i hope you child sees some relief from it!
