InactiveHello everyone! Thank you all SO much for all the advice on this forum. The TED diet is saving my sanity and my baby is doing great on it. However, I am trying to introduce new foods into my diet. First of all (in a moment of weakness and doubt) I had a big plate of Chinese noodles and chicken from a restaurant, “just to see what would happen.” 24 hours later my baby was screaming in pain, and it lasted about 4 days, then she started doing better. She recovered from that, and after 2 weeks on the Ted diet, (still mucus in the diaper, but no more stinky gas or fussy behavior) I decided to try Beef. (Poor choice, I know, but I was at an event that had pot roast, and I thought it was a good time to try it.) I continued to try beef for about 9 days. My baby never really got fussy during that time, but she started spitting up a lot, and one day had a hint of blood in her diaper (two diapers- the first time I have EVER seen visible blood in her 3 months of life.) Towards the end of the 9 days she started to get a little fussier, but not much.
So is that a pass or a fail? The blood seems like an indicator that something is wrong, but her gas didn’t get much stinkier (just slightly when she would have a bowel movement) and the spitting up was annoying, but that screaming/pain thing didn’t seem to happen. I don’t know what to make of it.
For the record, she has seen a GI specialist who wanted her to try Neocate, and Prevacid. She didn’t think I could keep up the strict diet. I haven’t started her on either of those things, because my baby has been so happy and content while I’m on the TED diet. Plus, I am wondering if she even NEEDS Prevacid, since the (SILENT) reflux is only induced by the foods I am eating. She is 3 months old and I have been off of dairy since she was 1 week old, and on the TED diet for almost 1 month. (Mucus still present in the diaper, but starting to disappear finally.)
Well, I did stop beef 4 days ago, and then 3 days later tried Chicken and Red Pepper. (Again, I know you’re not supposed to try two foods at once, but I was traveling and got desperate again for some food. She got really fussy for 24 hours, and now is better again. So I know one of those foods is a fail- I’m guessing it’s the Red Pepper. I am just very glad that it was only 24 hours instead of 4 days.
ANY ADVICE WOULD BE SO HELPFUL!
I have been giving her a little bit of Mylanta when she gets fussy- that seems to make her poop turn creamy yellowish, sometimes slightly florescent green, and ball up in huge curds, kind of silly putty-like. Has anyone else seen this?
So many questions…I probably need to do a bunch of posts. Thanks for your help!

Keymasterhmmm…the blood from the beef? was it bright red? ‘fresh’ like from a cut? or brown, like coffee grounds?
if it was ‘fresh’ then that means it was ‘newer’ and from lower in the digestive track- if it went away, then it might have been a fissure (little tear in the skin by the anus)if it was brown then it’s from ‘higher up’ in the digestive track; it was ‘older,’ hmmm…if the blood was ‘fresh’ then I might go ahead and try beef again? maybe try organic/free range?after you get the beef figured out, then I would try chicken again – organic/free range if you can (only bcse there isn’t anything ‘added’)as for the mylanta- it’s probably the colorings/flavorings that are affecting your baby. does the mylanta help? if so, I might continue to use it, despite the poop reaction?July 7, 2011 at 4:30 pm #68600Anonymous
InactiveThanks Laura, that is very helpful! It was bright red, so maybe I will try some organic beef again. What do you think about the extra spit up? No biggie?
The Mylanta does help her calm down when she seems to be hurting, although I am worried about the aluminum content. But the GI Specialist told me to try it. I am using it as sparingly as possible.

Keymasterif the spit up didn’t bother her, than: no biggie…
try to find mylanta cherry supreme- it’s the kind without aluminum- if you can’t find it locally try store-brand equivalents like cvs brand, rite aid, target, etc- look for no aluminum- or try finding it online?July 7, 2011 at 5:19 pm #68602Anonymous
InactiveNice, Thanks! I’ll pick some up today.

InactiveI just wanted to say you’re doing a great job! Keep up the good work! My doctor was skeptical about me continuing with such a strict diet as well, but I’m happy to say my LO is 11 months old and we’re still BFing! I’m avoiding dairy/soy/eggs/tomatoes/nuts.
It sounds like you’re pretty in tune with your LO and your diet, and for what it’s worth, it took a really long time for my LO to have mucus free diapers, about 4 wks.July 8, 2011 at 12:58 am #68607Anonymous
InactiveThanks Rachel! It is so nice to have some encouragement from other parents who understand! That’s amazing that you’ve been able to keep BF’ing your LO. SO GREAT! I plan to do the same!
