We’re waiting to see what to do re: treatment because Simon just came back from the hospital after having a pyloromyotomy (and yes, it was hell), but in the case that he does need to have medication, we are leaning toward Zegerid since it’s immediate release and we can now get it over the counter (when we went through this with my daughter it was only avaiable via prescription, and the GI refused to prescribe it — also, it was darned expensive/tier 3 through our insurance at the time). We used Prevacid solutabs with my daughter and they worked great but she wasn’t as hungry as this kid is, and I just don’t see how we’re going to apply the 30-minute rule with him, because he cries minutes upon awakening to eat.
A quick search is telling me that OTC Zegerid comes in capsules, so I’m guessing I can break them open and use the contents. How should I go about this? Also, has anyone actually used Zegerid on their infant; how does it compare to Prevacid or any other PPI? I got so frustrated trying to use BufferBabies so this is the only immediate release treatment I will consider this time around.
