Our son isn’t even on one of those formulas yet, and I’m already thinking about the light at the end of the tunnel, so to speak. Our daughter was on Alimentum (gag) for nearly a year and we were finally able (after I think the third try) to wean her to Enfamil GentleEase, and then on to whole cow’s milk. It was WONDERFUL and I feel so incredibly lucky that she outgrew her problems as early as she did (although that year was pretty awful, but I digress).
Anyway, she never did perfect with Alimentum; her sleep was still terrible and I’m convinced that had she been on something like Neocate or Elecare, we might have had a much better time. We’ll see what the pediatric GI says about my son on Tuesday, but I’m anticipating a switch (he’s currently on Alimentum with really, really bad acid reflux — I’m thinking it’s worse than our daughter’s was, even. We’re waiting on Caracream Z and will be doing rounds of Zegerid for it). He’s been on straight Alimentum for nearly a week now and I’m not seeing a huge change in his symptoms. So I’m thinking the next step is Neocate/Elecare (by the way, does anyone know if the GI would have samples? I’m really afraid he won’t take either one — although I had that fear with Alimentum and he’s been guzzling the stuff).
So I’m thinking about when his problems are finally “over;” how the heck do I wean him off that stuff? Will it be as simple as when I weaned Jenna from the Alimentum? Should I wean him to Alimentum first? I just want to have a plan in mind for how this next year will go. Truth be told, I want to think about anything other than our current situation. He’s pretty miserable (as am I) right now.
