InactiveNew Question!
To date I haven’t found anyone with a similar sleep issue that I am having- I hope someone can help me!
My son is 7 weeks old, and we have been having reflux issues since 2 weeks. Currently taking 15mg of Prevacid a day and is formula fed Similac Alimentum. The Prevacid has seemed to help him but we are still not having the best of luck when it comes to comfort. He naps well in the swing in the morning and then off and on in the afternoon, never longer than 30 minutes at a time. When it come time for bed, he becomes what I call frantic and is very wound up and agitated. I have tried an earlier bed time, it worked one night and the next night I couldn’t get him to sleep. Usually, he is up until 11pm simply because we can’t get him to sleep or out of the agitated state. He acts as if he wants to eat constantly, but I know this irritates the reflux. Some nights I can tell he is uncomfortable from reflux and other nights I’m not sure. Normally, a bottle lulls a baby to sleep in a milk style coma and for us we get the opposite. I have tried all the calming techniques that I know: swaddling, shushing, dark room, white noise, binkie. I have even tried some Colic Calm (it works any time besides late night) Often times this soothing techniques make him more mad and he screams. My questions:
1. Is this normal for a baby with reflux to be agitated at night?
2. Is there any thing we can do to calm him down that I haven’t thought of?
3. Is this a signal that his meds aren’t effective in the evening?
4. Would adding cereal to his formula help anything?

Keymasterplease tell me meds and med schedule…
please tell me form of medsyou say 15mgs but of what? and all at once?split into two doses?do you have any zantac?if you do, how much does he weigh?forget the cereal (for now at least)- you’ll be adding more to an already upset digestive system…July 30, 2011 at 1:35 pm #68750Anonymous
Inactive15mg of Prevacid- 1 time per day. Doctor has me dissolving a tablet in water. I make sure to wait 30 minutes before feeding.
We were taking Zantac (.08ml) 2 times per day but have discontinued this since starting Prevacid 1 week ago
I have to be honest- I haven’t weighed him as of late but I am guessing 10lbs. I will confirm though.

Keymasteryou can dissolve the solutab as much or as little as you want to…
you can put it in alongside the inside of his cheeck & use a syringe to wash/dissolve it downyou can dissolve it w/ a bit of water & make a paste and use your finger & a syringe of water to wash it downwhatever works for you
split it in half and give two times a dayyour baby isn’t getting ANY relief at night if you’re only giving in the morningalso, break out the zantac and give that, too, until things get better…July 30, 2011 at 5:35 pm #68752hellbennt
KeymasterOk looking at this again…baby has only been on Prevacid only for 1 wk & it can take up to 14 days to see full results/effects of Prevacid…so, that’s another reason to give zantac, too, just make sure to space it 4 hrs from the prevacid…
zantac dosing- read this and I’ll help you w/ the calculations if you want
:Zantac dosing– my/other’s question (has axid & pepcid doses, too):
