InactiveHi Everyone,
I am wanting some opinions on my 9 month old’s dosage of prevacid and CCmax. My son continues to wake between the hours of 1 and 4 with reflux even after being on the CCmax with prevacid 3 times (7:30 a.m., 1:30p.m. and 7:30p.m.) a day 7 mls each time (the sheet says 6.2 mls so I round up in case he doesn’t get it all in his mouth.) I need to order some cherry supreme so we are using Maalox right now when he has flare ups.My question is should I increase his night dosage to help with the flare ups and frequent waking or should I increase the doses during the day as well? How soon will I see the effects of the increase if it’s working?I appreciate any opinions!August 9, 2011 at 7:38 pm #68832hellbennt
KeymasterI would increase at night, since that’s when you’re seeing the issue- also if it’s been 2-4hrs past prevacid dose & he wakes up, then I would try some zantac at that time…
if day time is ok, then maybe just do two doses?
1st thing a.m & then evening w/ zantac as needed in between?or, zantac am, prevacid middle of day & evening?you’ll see effects pretty soon (not the full two weeks it takes for initially starting a PPI- you’ll either see it immediately or in a day or two at the most)make sure you’re not giving maalox too close to prevacid (should be 4hrs but it might be ok w/ 2hrs- it’s all a lot of trial & error, which can be frustrating!)hellbennt2011-08-09 19:40:05

InactiveThank you Laura, since day time is fine I think I might try two doses one in a.m. and one in p.m. and see how that goes. Then if that doesn’t work I’ll try increasing his night time dosage and go back to 3 times a day. I’ll let you know how it goes.

InactiveThe past couple nights have been a lot better but I still would love more input. Since we don’t have any issues during the day I adjusted his morning dose to 5 mls, afternoon to 10mls and evening to 10mls. The first night I increased his evening dosage to 10 mls. and gave the maalox at his 11:30 nursing even though he wasn’t refluxing. When he woke for his 3 am. feeding he had no reflux issues, in fact he fell asleep and didn’t even finish eating which never happens as he usually is restless and crying out from time to time for about an hour or so!
Last night I decided to see if it was the increase in prevacid/ccmax or if the improvement was a combo of the increase and maalox. When he woke at 4 to be nursed he was restless again and I could tell he was having reflux issues but it wasn’t as long as it normally is and he never fully woke up.
My question is should I continue with the 10 mls at night and giving the maalox (or MCS) at his 11:30 feeding to be proactive even if he’s not having a flare up or should I increase his evening dosage a little more and lesson his afternoon dosage to maintain the same mls overall (25mls total in one day) to see if that gets him through the night without having to supplement anything? Thanks for the opinions.August 11, 2011 at 1:45 pm #68853hellbennt
Keymasterit’s really trial and error…
you could try both ways…giving the maalox shouldn’t be harmful, if you see loose stools then you know to back off…
