InactiveI am trying to figure out exactly what is hurting and how to fix it. My daughter is 5 weeks old and just now started getting fussy at the breast sometimes. SHe will tug and squirm and pull off and on and cry out. She also usually passes gas. This usually happens at the first of the feedings and last for a few minutes. So far she has gotten over it in a few minutes and finished the fee. I am scared though that she is eventually just going to stop eating. ANyone have any ideas about what this is???

InactiveCould be early signs of reflux, but also could just be gas. You mentioned in your other post overactive let down. Does she have any other symptoms?

InactiveIs she fussy after she eats? Since she is still eating well and finishes eating after some initial fussing, maybe it’s just the fast let down that’s bothering her.
You’ll likely see it get worse if it is reflux. More refusing to eat. Irrititablilty after eating. Sour smelliing spit up. Poor sleep.
Do you give her gas drops (Mylicon)? They seem to help my babies with gas. I give them to my son before every feeding and it seems to help him pass gass and burp better.
I hope it’s not reflux and that she stops fussing at the breast, but we’re here to help you if it gets worse and you need us.

InactiveShe spits up quite a bit and she sounds gurgly a lot. She acts like something hurts. My son had reflux but it was secondary to mspi -we think. None of the reflux meds ever made him want to eat. SHe is taking prevacid. If it was just reflux…wouldnt that make her quit hurting? One other thing she does that is weird… is she grunts and turns red.. I dont’ mean a little grunting or when stretching…she does it almost all night long…she was definitely hurting when she ate this morning though… and it is getting more and more. maybe she has mspi too …i hate not knowing what is wrong and how to fix it.

Keymasterhi there! I responded to your other post!
there’s a lot of info about breastfeeding your reflux baby from my welcome/intro- there’s links about Overactive Letdown, there’s links about how to address MSPI and more…
the PPI should help with the pain, but my educated guess is that perhaps she’s not on a ‘proper’ dose for her weight or perhaps the compund isn’t ‘proper’ – look for the link ‘Prevacid 101’ where you can learn about how to ask for a PPI to be compounded and doses are there, too…
