Hi everyone! I’m a FTM trying to navigate this reflux territory. Caleb is almost 10 weeks old and has been on Zantac for silent reflux for about 2 weeks. It’s helped, but he’s still not doing great. His ped prescribed Prevacid Solutabs.
He had had a really good day today, and then I gave him his Prevacid for the first time. He was annoyed to begin with because I made him wait 30 minutes after his nap to eat so I could give him the med. He calmed down and was happy after he got his nom noms, though. 😉 Then, about an hour after he took the Prevacid, all hell broke loose. I have never heard my baby scream like that. His reflux usually takes the form of incessant fussing punctuated by “I’m really uncomfortable” crying. (That, and all the fun wet hiccups, back arching, I can hear the reflux coming up his throat, gurgling/coughing/choking, etc. etc.) This was a “holy crap stop stabbing me” kind of cry. He cried for a good three hours. I don’t know if he started feeling better or if he was just so tired he fell asleep.
I remember reading that Prevacid can cause stomach cramps in babies, and I’m guessing that’s what happened. Has anyone else’s LO had this sort of reaction to Prevacid? I’m also trying to figure out where we go from here. I’m calling his ped first thing in the morning, but I wanted to see what other moms had experienced. If your baby wasn’t able to handle Prevacid, were they able to take other PPIs? He’s EBF, so formula isn’t an issue, and I’m pretty sure we’re not dealing with MSPI since he doesn’t have the related poo issues and stuff.
