InactiveSo I went to get DS prevacid refilled. Medco says no generic available. No local pharmacy I checked with has it either. So now $180 to refill brand prevacid at Medco for 3 months. What’s up? they can’t keep up with demand. Ds is just in the last week (at 14 months old) doing a little better. I don’t want to change anything until I figure out why he is better.
Anyone else able to get generic somewhere??Blessedmom07October 19, 2011 at 2:42 pm #69234Anonymous
InactiveNope. I refilled ours. Generic is gone for now – they just never make enough.

InactiveWal-mart pharmacy told my husband that the company might no longer be manufacturing it? In that case, I would assume (hope!) that insurance companies would have to cover the non-generic.
We just got all that Wal-mart in my area had left (26 15mg pills). Not sure what we’ll do when they’re gone.. but we have his six month check coming up on November 8th so I guess I’ll ask my doctor.nikelodeon792011-10-25 18:02:32

Keymastertry & get a RX for zegerid powder it MUSt be the 40mg packets- this makes it so that you can give it at any time & don’t have to worry about timing:
Prevacid 101:
scroll to the last page of this post, (it’s actually also about other PPIs like prilosec, too)

InactiveWhy aren’t they making the generic as much or at all anymore? Is the zegerid powder cheaper as a prescription than Prevacid? Can I buy it with my HSA plan? I almost feel like I should stock up on generic Prevacid if I see it. What is the shelf life of it?

InactiveI was wondering the same thing, is the OTC Prevacid the same?

KeymasterOTC PPIS are the same- it how you administer them that’s important!

InactiveOkay, I’m reading this post:
https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1936&PN=1
And it seems that I could buy the capsules or the solutabs, but the capsules can be given with applesauce and it is not necessary for them to be on an empty stomach? Correct me if I’m wrong…
Any form is okay, even extended relief?
Sorry for all the questions, but my doctor is not helpful. (I’m likely going to switch doctors). She would not prescribe the Zegerid because it’s not approved for babies. She said to just go back to Zantac and up the dose… I upped the dose and he SCREAMED all night long… I think it upset his tummy, poor baby.
ETA: Okay, sorry, just saw this post:
“yes- you open the capsule up somehow then you spill out the beads and split them into two groups/piles/doses
take one pile/group/dose of beads & give to baby on an empty stomach
administer the beads by sprinkling on top of a 1/2 tsp of apple sauce
(wash down w/ 1ml syringe full of water, as needed, or take the top/nipple off a bottle and put a little water in it and let baby suck on the nipple to get the water, or get a medicine pacifier and fill w/ some water and let baby suck it)
follow the dose of prevacid with a ‘meal’ 30 minutes after giving it (the prevacid)”
So it still has to be on an empty stomach, but you give it with applesauce, right? nikelodeon792011-11-16 09:59:02
