Does anyone have any information/thoughts on putting omeprazole (Prilosec of Zegerid) in a bottle of breastmilk to administer to LO? Joel of U of M stated in one of his posts that an acidic environment will degrad the omeprazole, but I wasn’t sure if breastmilk was acidic.

Has anyone done this? Did the breastmilk turn bitter too. I’m not wanting my LO to associate bitterness with a bottle.

no you cannot do this…BUT…you can, LOL!

please read through the stickies (I know you have! & Prevacid 101…

basically: if you use zegerid YES you can give w/ a bottle- this is because zegerid can be given at any time

make sure zegerid is mixed correctly!!

if you’re using capsules or solutabs then these need to be given on an empty stomach, followed by a ‘meal’ 30 minutes later

Okay great. Then I assume that the prilosec compound can also be added to a bottle and that breastmilk is not acidic and will not degrade the omeprazole? Are these assumptions correct?

You could add w/ some breastmilk- taste to see if it’s bitter- I don’t know anything about your particular compound?
