InactiveHi, My 11 MO has been on caracream max/prevacid for probably going on 9 months now. He has been at the same dosage the entire time. Of course, I’m on my last bag of CC Max and I threw out the instructions because at this point I could make it in my sleep, so I’m not sure how many mg he is getting, but I give him 5 ml of the mix 3 x’s a day. My recollection was that this was equal to 5mg 3 x’s a day, but that doesn’t seem to add up when I start trying to calculate the dosage per ml (19 capsules x 15 mg = 285/50ml = 5.7 mg/ml, but what about the added volume b/c of the powder??) This dosage was the max when he started, but of course, he has probably tripled his weight since then. I had thought, well, he must be getting better because unless I miss a dose, he never spits up during the day.
The past 4-6 weeks, he had a cold, got over the cold, but still had a cough, primarily at night. During this time he has also gotten 3 teeth, started walking, started talking, and in the past 2-3 weeks seems to want to drop to one nap. He has also stopped sleeping regularly – formerly, he slept a good 10-11 hours straight. Now, he is up at least every 3-4 hours, and some nights (like last night) he is up every 1 to 1.5 hours. I had attributed the cough to the cold (I still have a cough and we got sick about the same time). But last night, I went in and he had spit up so much it was all over his hair. I realized a lot of the time I hear him coughing at night, it seems to start with a choking noise – reflux? I feel very confused. Did the cough last night cause him to throw up some b/c of gag reflex? Did reflux cause him to spit up/throw up? Is reflux causing the cough? Is the teething causing sinus drainage thereby causing the cough? etc. etc. etc. I don’t know what’s what or where to start.
So, sorry for being so wordy, but
1) does anyone know what the dosage per ml of the caracream max is when mixed with the 19 prevacid 15 mg OTC capsules?
2) has anyone seen a backslide with reflux around this age, or during these growth phases (early walking, early talking – I know teething makes it worse)?
3) anyone think I should just switch him to prilosec now and see if it’s the prevacid causing sleep issues? I’m out of caracream max in a week at most and there’s no way I can go the applesauce route because he refuses to eat anything off a spoon that’s fed to him. It’s got to go in the formula.
4) Should I just up his dosage with either option and see if that helps?
Thoughts would be appreciated!

InactivePS – he is now about 26 pounds, so I guess that would put him at 11.8 kg, so he would need approx 12 – 15 mg 3 x’s/day?
